I'm looking to buy a mig welder running on 220V
I'm very in experienced but plan on teaching my self how to repair my front fender and qrt panels by replacing and fabricating replacement panels
I do not know how to tig weld was never taught....i know how to arc and mig weld only so I'm wondering on the inexpensive side of things what am I looking at ?
does it matter? best welder for automotive? or what?
I'm very new to the welding "scene"

So what suggestions? brands?
what mask shall I get also?preferred brand over others?

for weekend warrior and small stuff, harbor freight is your friend. just get a 110v gasless mig welder for $120 on sale.

are you sure the 110v would do it? what if i got better and welded a roll cage? still 110v? im willing to spend the extra money to darn near never replace it....and dads getting a guy to run a 220v line sometime in the future?
does he need to? i mean id love to save the extra money so if im wrong about "needing" a 220 please enlighten me

i have the $120 flux welder from harbor freight. does the job if the metal is 1/8" thick. flux likes to splatter a lot n coats the welds with a brownish coating to protect the welds. just use a wire brush to take it off.

nope, get you a lincoln or miller........ I got a 110 Lincoln Gas Mig, and wish that I had a 220V now.

make a thread in the fabrication/welding forum........ those guys will help you

Miller or Hobart and dont look back. Do it right, do it once. There IS a difference of weld quality, especially for a beginner and thin metal.

Make sure youre looking at metal gauges when looking at welders. Some of the 220 machines wont do thin stuff. I have two different MIGs I use depending on what Im welding, as well as a torch set that will do it all. I also have two different arc welders, one 110 and one 220 for other applications, but thats a different topic. Also, I run flux core wire in my MIG most of the time because Im usually outside. No point in running solid core with gas if youre outside where I am, too much wind. Its not worth it unless you crank the gas up pretty high for more flow, then youre just wasting it.

at sears for about 300$ you can get a lincoln welder, and all the stuff to either use is as flux core or cas sheilded. wire and mask and everything but a bottle of gas. it runs on 110 also
