Manual Window to Power Window

Sorry if this is the wrong location for this thread. Having difficulty with wiring always have, ok here it goes. My 85 came with manual crank windows instead of power, found left and right side mechanism from an 83 in which I have already installed unto my 85, now am needing help with wiring because when it comes to it am not to bright, well lets face it, I never messed around with wiring at all, and I humble myself unto you guys for some help. Has anyone done this to their first gen? if so how did you do it? am badly needing help, thanks. Oh almost forgot already ran the wires from the doors unto the plug, but dont know where to go from there, thanks.

IIRC there is a difference between the plugs on the console switch side, 6 prong instead of 4. Check the FSM, should tell you.

Stock 85's should come with at least some of the wiring in place. Mine had the wire up to the doors, and then wired through up to the plug under the seat. You may be lucky and have the wires brought up all the way to the center console.

I assume you have connected the 2 pin connectors from each motor to the 2 pin connector under the dash, near the front speaker area. Take off your center console, and start looking for a 6? (IIRC) plug with 12 or 14 gauge wire. It should be around where the power window switches are going to go. I also assume that you have gotten some 84/85 switches. I do not know if the plug is the same on the earlier models. If you can't find the plug, take out the driver's seat and check for a large connector under where the seam in the carpet is under the driver's seat. There should be 5-6 12or 14 gauge wires on the door side of the plug. If the wires do not continue though to the other side of the plug (mine was missing the wire from the connector under the seat to the plug for the switches) you will have to wire something yourself. I can help you with this, but you will have to wait a couple weeks, things are very hectic right now.

yes, I connected the two 14 gauge wire (green and red) from the door's. on the 83 the wires were behind the console, but being that mines an 85 didnt see no plugs behind console, but did see 14 guage wires (green & red) so I tapped into them that way and ran wires under the console to where the switches would go. From there since I got tired of blowing fuses am running straight from battery with an in-line 30amp fuse for power and ran my grounds right under where the switches go to bare metal, my passenger side goes down but wont come back up and my driver side does nothing I have matched all color wires and still get nothing, window motors are good if I run jumping cables to plug coming out of the doors that way go up and down no problem, I figured maybe I ran a wire or two wrong I'd be glad to wait since I dont want to get them going (knowing I know jack of electric) and burn the car down while driving lol, thanks.

forgot to mention, the switches am using came from an 83 at salvage yard and they are not the factory ones, they seem to be like the ones you would see in an crown vic or car of that nature, but didnt like the way they had wires running to it so I solder instead. I know it may not be best looking. the plugs from switches (keeping in mind from 83) had four 14 guage GREEN-RED-BLACK-BLACK BLUE... green and red up down - black for ground & black blue for current.
