LSD or welded diff for 82 gs?

im looking for any way to get rid of this one tire fire i got going. i know u can swap the gsl rearend and gain the limited slip and disc brakes and all but im wondering who if anyone makes a LSD for the normal gs rearend? or a spool or locker? if not what are the downfalls of just welding it up? its not a daily driver and mainly just a play car and i wouldnt mind getting sideways more often. one wheel peel isnt helping out the fun factor any.

You can take a LSD unit from a pre-83 car and it will fit right into your rear end. However, the better/easier way to do it is to just swap the entire rear end over and gain the rear discs. The LSD rear makes it very easy to get sideways, and very easy to control it once you get it there.

I ran a welded diff on the street for over a year, and i can tell you that it is not recommended. A solid or welded rear will eat drive lines like you wouldn't believe. An LSD rear from a gsl or -se is easy to swap and much more pleasant.

only use welded if your using it for track, lsd works great and won't blow up

Get a used gsl rear for cheap and rebuild it. They are clutch type, simple to rebuild, and simple to increase break away torque. You will spend incredibly less, learn something in the process, and have the knowledge to rebuild it when i gets worn.

I run a used gsl rear with one thicker disc and it works beautifully.
