As much as I love my little FB GSL, it's simply seen too many Canadian winters to be saveable in a viable budget. It's a total original, but I know it's just too far gone for me to save. I guess it will be time for a part out soon, but don't worry - I have my eye on a 1986 FC. I'm determined to have a road worthy RX7 at some point in life, so this isn't giving up, just goodbye to the rotary life for now. Especially with this car being an automatic - I hardly see the merit in restoring it. I'm halfway through high school, so there is certainly time for me to buy another (and that aforementioned FC is a $2000 dream machine with 92000kms and a 5 speed!).
It's been oil-guarded. It's been rustproofed. It's had filler in the rear fenders, but Canada doesn't care. I hardly trust this thing to have any kind of structural integrity at this point...
Considering it's an automatic and has 150000kms, it's maybe a $4000 car at best and needs two or three times that in work to get it back up to standard. That FC is infinitely better in condition... here's a picture from the ad. The guy just wants it gone.

Interested in the wiper motor if you do part it out. Parting is hard, but at least it will live on as a part of other FB's.
Exactly. I know there are so many good parts left on it (rear disk and LSD) and the bugger would even run with new fuel lines and a good run through of the old gas. People need the parts, and it would be in Rx7Club classifieds right now if it wasn't for the 10 post requirement.
It's no way close to a 4k car but parting it out may beat the price the JY will give you. Good call on calling it
quits on that FB
By $4000 I meant fully restored, but yes, it isn't worth the investment. It was given to my uncle for free who then bought an MR2 an abandoned it. It was in decent shape then, but my dad wouldn't let me work on it until it was too far gone. It's been neglected so long that no amount of my love could do. My total investment is the cost of wax I used to clean it, and I have my uncle's permission to part it out. I've made money no matter what, and that $2000 FC I was talking about - well, it was sold within a day. Deals don't last. Just being in the presence of this old rustbucket and hearing it sputter and try to run in 10 second bursts is enough to make sure rotaries will always be in my heart - and that's the silver lining to a tragic love story between a young boy and a slice of tainted Hiroshima steel.
Yeah, if you don't have the skill of metal working then its time to part the car out or part with it entirely. The thing is that there are better cars to start with and that FC looks like a great example. I think you're making the right choice.

Sadly that FC was sold within a day of it being posted it was so amazing
gotta be prepared to jump on those deals the moment you see them, plus posting them up on here isn't a good idea as it just gives everyone else ideas too.
There will be other deals on FC's. Spring is coming and people will be listing a bunch of cars here soon. Be patient and wait for exactly what you want that's within your budget. Start saving now and as stated above, start parting this car out. In doing so, you'll gain working experience on the RX-7 and make some money off of the parts. For some of the bigger stuff, post it online locally as well and see if you can find someone local to buy drivetrain and larger body parts that may be difficult or costly to ship.
