Insurance

Just curious....

Do you guys drive around with just liability insurance or do you carry full coverage on your first gens?

Full coverage. It is better to get a collector policy, because in the event of an accident it can be difficult to collect the full value from a regular policy.

I would wager that the collector's type policy is cheaper since it implies that you don't use your vehicle for regular commuting.

liability, not worth it to pay greater amount in insurance than the entire value of the car each year imo.

As it is, my liability is the same price I paid for my 7........rape is what i call it

You mean you do have liablity? It's the basic thing that protects you from lawsuit.

I didn't mean to hit a nerve with some of you guys but you can tell who the younger RX-7 owners are and who are the older guys.

To you younger guys, keep that policy in force. Shop around at renewal time. Companies will often times give a discount for moving your business from your current company to the new one. It only works if you keep the policy going.

Invest in your future, try not to get any tickets!!! Companies usually charge a certain percentage for violations. The higher your premium the more those violations will affect your payments.

If your SA is not a daily driver you might save a significant amount of money and have good insurance levels by considering collector car insurance such as Hagerty.

I just carry liability and uninsured motorist, along with emergency road service, on all my vehicles. $55/month for 3 policies. Sometimes, it pays to be older, and have a spotless record.
I have considered collector coverage for the car, but most companies limit mileage and require the vehicle to be kept in locked garage. I like to drive my car whenever the mood strikes me, and not having to worry about the number of miles I drive per year, is a nice thing.

I have just liability on all my cars, unless you have collectors, or agreed upon value type coverage it's not worth it to have full coverage on these cars, they just won't pay you enough if it gets totalled.
I have 100/300/50 and its about $1800 a year for 3 cars (2 FB's and a 94 Accord)

I was quoted at only $30 more per month for liability, comp, underinsured, and roadside with rental car coverage for my pickup and an '85 RX-7 (I don't have the 7 yet though). That puts it at $95/month for a 2000 Ford Ranger 3.0L 4X4 with full coverage and an '85 RX-7 with liability, comp, and stuff...both have full glass too, no charge for fixing chips, $100 replaces any window.

25, no tickets, 3 accidents, only one on public property ;-)
