Ha cool choice man, I dig those cars and those motors. My dad has an 86 Monte SS, and had looked at GNL's but said they wouldn't come down on the sticker price on them back in the day (he bought new). Plus he thought the V8 of the Monte would be better

I give him **** now because he had a shot at owning one of the more unique, collectable sports cars of the 80s and he passed on one for a Monte Carlo....

it wouldn't be fwd, lots of guys do rwd setups, usually mated to a t-5. In the scheme of things making the yamahammer north-south is the least of your worries.

V10 6.8L Turbo Triton Ford motor. No one said it had to handle, or even be able to hold up the weight.

lol, i was actualy thinking about this a while back as well, why most people go for v6/8 when we have planty of newer, smaller l4 that can almost double the power of the old v8s.
Glad someone started this post before me

They're quite popular among the DIY electric car crowd. Personally, I feel less aversion to putting an electric motor in a 7 than a piston engine, because it's still technically rotary. Besides, RX-7s are supposed to have oddball engines, and as of right now, electric power qualifies. Maybe not for very much longer, though.

can your new i4's do 600 n/a horses (or I guess by your logic almost 1200)? I mean, I'm all about new stuff and all that but seriously, people need to take japanese stuff off its high horse and give credit where its due.

the old crap while lazy and inefficient, makes some serious BEEF, because it's HUGE.

There was a time when American engines were THE ****. sure we couldn't handle, or anything neat like that, but for the adrenaline junky, the states is where it was at. The acknowledgment that the USA was for power, and Europe for corners and aesthetics is what led to great things such as the Pantera, Iso Grifo, TVR, and Shelby.

I'm all for different, new, and goofy stuff (I drive a 6-port turbo rotary FB for Christ sakes) but if I just absolutely had to have an FB with more than 500-600 horsepower? V8 that bitch!

Apples to apples, sure, but horses to beef?
:P

'Lectrics will be really great. Some day. I think that when we're finally surrounded by decent electric vehicles, we'll all be pretty old by then, still talking about the 'good ol days', when they made cars with "Real" engines. As open minded as we'd love to believe we are, I think so long as we've been brought up with petrol in our viens, we'll always be drawn to it.

I agree with you that v8 will alwayse be more powerful. But that was not my point.

Maybe i'm missing something, but last time i read about the v8 swaps people where choising engines that where close to mpg of the rotary they had. And in stock mode where not producing much more hp. Now i'm talking about your average guy here.

What i'm wondering however, with a newer smaller l4s that archive the same stock hp as the huge v8s, wouldn't the weight diffirance be an advantage if you wanted a streetable car?

sorry for sidetracking

actually some of the up and coming EV cars are using rotary engines (non mazda at that!) in a hybrid setup.

i believe before long we're gonna use cars as a toy, we're already starting, most people have atleast 2 cars, 1 as a daily driver and the other as a "weekend/fun drive/raise hell" car, i may be dead (which is crazy cuz i'm like immortal or some ****) but there'll be a time when cars will be used like horses are used today, just grow them, make them look pretty and bring them out and ride them at the local fairs/festivals.
