I wonder if a rotary would drop in?

Mazda 929 2.0 Coupe 1983 * Rarität * in in Kamen | eBay

^^^ So apparently in Germany (and maybe Europe in general) got a LHD version of the HB Cosmo called the 929 2.0 Coupe.

I have a weird thing for the HB Cosmo, see:

Forbidden Gem: Mazda HB Cosmo – Spannerhead

but rather than import one from Japan and deal with the whole RHD-in-the-States thing, I wonder if it wouldn't make more sense to get one from across the Atlantic and see if a 12A or 13B would bolt in...?

...not that this makes any rational sense at all, mind you. Just daydreaming.

The wheel covers on the car in the auction? They're the first thing I'd toss if I got the car, lol. But perhaps my sarcasm-o-meter is maladjusted...?

The HB Cosmo had motor mounts on the center iron like a GSL-SE or 6 port 12A, so an FC engine should bolt in pretty easily. Right? Mike? Horizontal vs vertical studs are what you're dealing with.

Jeff, not to question your expertise, but doesn't the SE engine have the motor mount bracket on the front cover like a 4-port 12A, and not the center iron?

It has both. There are studs in the center iron or just threaded holes. Look at any GSL-SE intermediate plate and you'll see them. Same for any RE-SI or 6 port 12A. I think even the 12A Turbo had these as well but I don't have any here to look at. They were like this for the HB Cosmo and HC Luce engine bay.

Intredasting. I shall check my car's center plate next time I have the hood popped (prob this evening).

In spite of the fact that having the mounts centrally-located means an oil pan gasket replacement would be more difficult (I've pulled an FC engine before and seen how it mounts), I can see the advantages in terms of being able to service the front of the engine more easily.

Any more pros/cons to the two engine mount locations?
