I can't believe how hard it is to find a clean fb!
So I've been actively searching since last year (stopped between October through March as I picked up other cars) for a nice, clean, original, and hopefully a widebody fb. I've come close with 2 cars, but the buyers backed out. My search continues but I never thought it'll be this hard or for this long!

Have you checked with Donnie lately?
He's always on the fence with his wide body project, lot's of plans but not much happening, maybe now's the time:

Which one might this be? Do you have a link?

If your in Cali, the older cars are getting harder to find if they are post 1975 because of the
emissions laws. Thats my understanding. And you want a widebody, which were very rare and
usually only done for full race prepped cars. So even harder to find.
Clean FBs are easy to find out here on the east coast but widebodies are still rare. I would
second the one Ray mentions owned by Donny.

On a serious note, the fuel injected models aren't too hard to pass emissions as long as they are tuned correctly.

Just got back from bbq and working on the S3. First we went to a datsun/rotary swapmeet this morning. I found a rb 12-A 48 dellorto set up with 2 piece manifold and paid the seller his asking price...$200 + another $15 for a rb dellorto air cleaner. although im good in negotiating/low baller, i told my buddy to pay the man his asking price after i took the carb apart and found nothing was missng with the exception of the return spring. Secondly, i inspected the s3, deflooded the motor, reset the timing at tdc (using the counter weight via top inspection plate) and checked the igniters using a homemade igniter cheker. motor runs but wont hold idle due to bad fuel pump. He will order it tomordow. So far it has been a good weekend

Thanks for the shout out Ray and Tim.
As the PO and I discussed, the widebody is kind of still available. No major rush to sell at this point, and as Ray stated, I'm rather fickle about it. The right buyer just hasn't been serious enough and I like it's potential. I don't think it's a match for the PO though. He wants a driver, not a project.
I haven't seen your budget posted anywhere. There were some very nice examples available on here, and I think they still are, but you have to pay to play with the nice toys.
Good luck with your search.
