so far the child has not come and the contractions have susbided. the rain here has kept me out the the 8. after a closer inspection under the hood today, it appears as if the dealer has not performed the 30K mile service as they had advised that they did. i'll be calling them in the morning.

You're out of control Dave, you must be married to the most tolerant woman in the world (or one who loves rotaries and 63 Falcons). My grandmother had a black 63 Falcon (2 door) but I never did manage to get in line for it. Seeing yours make me wish I'd tried a little harder.

well on dec 15th at 1236, my wife gave birth to our second child, a boy, Grant Bryan Jones, weighing in at 7lbs 10oz and 21" in overall length! a car and a son within a week is a wonderful thing! i'll have to expose him to the rotary as soon as he is able!
And definitely a huge congratulations on the kid as well.

Megagrats, sir... and that Falcon is bee-you-tee-ful... so clean...
It's only one year older tham me; wish I'd aged half as well. But then, it probably had better care!

thanks for the compliments guys!!! the Falcon has been restored, thats why it looks as nice as it does. its low on compression as it sits. this summer i plan on pulling the engine and rebuilding it. i fear that if i just rebuild the top end i'm going to put a large strain on the bottom end and cause problems there... it just needs a good valve job and seals.
What do you mean by top end, and valve job? Uhh.....I don't know anything about them piston engines. Hehe.

normally, when you do a complete valve job and head cleaning and reinstall the head on a worn engine, it can cause problems with the bottom end if it is worn or not done at the same time. problems like slight rod and main bearing wear... it can also cause oil blowby due to the excessive compression of a new head and worn compression and oil control rings.
^ that's God's honest truth.
Gratz on the kid! Are you too sleep deprived for X-mas this year?
On a side note: I hate the price for which you got that -8. I'd been trying to find an 05+ for under 14K for a while, but now with school and general uncertainty regarding cash flow over the coming year, that's on hold. Still, that's a steal if it's in good shape.

i had some issues with the 8 recently that included a noisey t/o bearing, milky substance on the dipstick, moisture in the left taillight, and bad engine mount(s). i took the car to the dealer yesterday and picked it up today.
overall a plesant experience at the dealer today. i got the car back and they will fix everything except for the t/o bearing, no questions asked. they did say that the t/o bearing sound was normal but i can deal with that later as it is not normal. at any rate, the first pics is the sheet of items they have ordered parts for and are going to fix. the second is a nice sheet that they printed out for me that tells a lot of great info about my car and all of the recalls/warranty work that has been done over its lifespan. i'm not 100% sure what a couple of the codes mean but i can live with it as it was a nice gesture.

The Rx8 will never have the appeal of a 7... simple as that.
Its not a bad looking car, but the few flaws in its conceptual design are what really turn me off from it. I think the designers could have done a better job incorperating the front fender lines to the gril and that the entire profile of the car could have been adjusted to prevent that nasty little hump on its rear end.
But those are my opinions, It looks must better in black than most any other color I've seen. But yeah be prepoared to wash your car and then have it rain later that day, (Sad thing that seems to always happen to my dad).
In any case, if it wasn't warranty I say strip it of the good bits and drop them in an FB.

i'm not planning any mods on the 8. going to keep this one 100% bone stock. the kids on the other hand will be guided in the way of the rotary.
the reason for not modding the car is that i see so many modded ones and few stock ones on the boards and on the road. i always love driving stock RX-7's. someting about the car in its purist form. i enjoy the way it was designed and built.

thank you for your input. you're entitled to your opinion. some people eat onions and tomatoes. i despise them and wont some within a foot of them.
it is a VERY hard car to keep clean. the winter time is not the greatest time to stand outside and wash a car by hand..but i've done it a few times. i liked the velocity red but i see a lot of those. i do like phantom blue on the RX-8. its like a dark green/blue color. those seem to be as scarce as hen's teeth.
