GSL Front Valance Installed

Man, I hope I spelled that right. Anyways, Good ol' Ray gave me this a while back and I never got around to painting or installing it. I was going to match the paint of the car, but being told that early GSL's did not have paint matched front valances from the factory, only the 84-85's were matched, others were black. So off I went to my local Wal-Mart, grabbed some gloss black (it was $1, flat black was $3) paint and started the install.

Now I have a way to route air to my Brake Coolers. You can vaguely see them in the first picture.

Nice. I've never actually seen a stock GSL with a black lower valance but it doesn't look bad at all. It's kind of funny though how you were talking about the S3 valances being painted body color and that's what you have LOL. S1 and S2's didn't have those vents, only S3's. I want to make a chin spoiler for my S with the S3 valance for some downforce on the front end and help air into the radiator, oil cooler, intercooler, and brake ducts

I have an S2, the valance came from an 84 iirc. I thought 81-83 GSL's were black and 84-85 were body colored. I wouldn't mind it being silver with the car, but then again, its under the car, and nothing goes down there besides bugs :P

That's strange, I've owned an 84 S and an 85 GS (currently own), both cars are red from the factory with black valances. Would this be GSL specific? Anyways, I removed both of them and they are currently hanging on the wall in my garage.

I like it black Stu, it's more distinctive and matches the grill, gives it that mean look like it's ready to swallow up a mustang or something. Thanks for giving it a new life.

i'm with you there. i've never seen another valance that wasn't colored with the RX-7. i think that all valances were color matched to the car.

Bad83's valance was black. Don't know if it was made that way or not.

The Valences are body colored for all FB's from the factory.

This includes all models and all years.

The only thing that changed later was the 'late' 85 GSL-SE models, that started to get
body colored side mirrors, instead of Black (like all FB's previously)
