Front valence

Hello, Im considering making my own front valence for my rx-7, it seems simple enough to make. Unless you kind gentlemen know where to find a part, im considering making my own at home. I will basically flatten my existing one and trace it onto a new piece of metal.

Just to be 100% sure im talking about the right. part, here's a picture!

The lowest part on the car that looks really dented. I'm assuming that the valence <br/>

I always called that the chin spoiler. Early cars came with a metal one, later 79's were molded plastic which held up better. Nice ones are kind of hard to find now a days. Like most NLA parts, you have to be patient and look at a lot of cars that are being parted out.

Keep us updated. Look around on Craigslist for part outs and make a post here on the forum in the 1st gen parts section. You never know, someone may have one laying around. I've got a ton of odd 1st gen parts in my parts collection. Stuff I'm sure no one is beating down any doors to get, but there's that off chance that I'll need one of the odd parts or someone else will. I'd bet there are more guys here that do the same thing (parts hoarding) than not.

Some junkyards also post cars being parted out on ebay. You might find a listing for a bumper or transmission but if you contact them, you can get any parts off the shell they have. Sometimes you can get that obscure part you have been searching for. I recently got 2 waffle center caps (official unobtainium) and a nice passenger door mirror this way.

This is not a quick or instant gratification process. It takes time, patience and some luck sometimes.

There is junk yard I know that has a near complete black RX-7 , it's missing the hood and all wheels . But everything else is in tact. Its not a pick a part though . I saw the poor car because I was asked to verify the fender was the one I wanted . Sadly it has a huge dent at the bottom ( I couldn't see it ) I'm thinking of going back and asking them to pull the seats / wheel / grill / bumpers / remaining trim and rear lights .

Removed it easily , we'll the bolt on my good fender was bonded to the Damn clip and broke , not sure where I'm going to find replacement bolts for that but whatever . I then hammered the valence flat as best I could removing the curvature ( easily recurved by bolting it back on ) then I drilled it down to a piece of large plastic ( my dad got this from a huge machine housing , don't ask what the hell it is ) then I traced it and cut the shape out. Now I'm currently sanding it down

Too bad you're not local, I have a spare I'm hanging on to for lord knows what. Yours looks good. Why not go bigger though since you're already making your own? Make it drop down 3, 4, even 6 inches, get that front downforce!

That WILL be done, BUT as an extension on top of this. You have to remember this part is basically at a 90-degree angle meaning anything long would just go directly down to the ground, and since the plastic doesn't bend, that would mean some gnarly body damage if I ever bottomed out. I will drill two holes about 4 inches down between the two front bolt locations and place clips bent at a 35-degree angle that I will have to make myself out of galvanized metal.I had to make two myself today, pretty proud of how well they came out. I'll post pics of the custom clips I made. Im honestly proud of how well I fit the parts on, there's no funky gaps or spaces! I might even dare say it looks NICE IN BLUE! but probably paint it silver/black

Metal clip/ hanger . Old valence had a L to it .
Mounting location ( had to remove the stock clips , put them in a baggie for safe keeping) And yes its filthy down there ! But no rust !
Zero gaps .
Used heat gun to meld into shape . Clip will hold it in place after I drill a hole and insert the bolt. Looks better than stock !

Also, that not my Mercedes, friend blew the tranny and dropped it off .

Finished today, painted it black . Also cleaned the splash guard. Looks nice ! Up next , painting the rear Licence plate lights . Then I'm going to remove the trim and paint it with black plasti dip. Plastidip binds with rubber real well , that's why they always tell you to never have it touch your weather stripping , it bonds to it and won't come off without serious scrubbing .

Looks really good.

I pastidipped the bra on my car and at first it was on all the rubber pieces. It started peeling because I would run into my bumper ends sometimes and hit it with my leg, LOL! After awhile I just went around and removed it from the rubber pieces on the bumper and the side moldings as well. It actually may stick to rubber well but to vinylized rubber like our trim and molding pieces, not so well. Its sticks to paint great! I'd rethink that idea of plastidipping the molding. What does work well is back to black from mothers or mequires or whatever. That stuff works well.
