found something interesting the other day

So just before I pulled my FB out of storage, I got curious about my build date. My car is titled an 85, and I was born June 12, 1985. I looked at the sticker in the drivers door jamb, and my car was built 6/85. My car is roughly the same age as I am...

That's rather cool. A nice coincidence.

My -7 was built in January of the year I graduated high school. Not nearly as fun a fact.

I wonder if there's any way to find exact build date, down to the day?

if you knew the range of VIN's that were produced in a year, you could extrapolate how many were built per day and see where that lands you.

True... but I envy the Detroit Iron geeks that can scrape up provenance on their vehicles that "...the engine was built on Thursday March 22nd, by Bud Mehlman, on second shift... ol' Bud never did get the pushrods just right..."

As meticulous as the Japanese are with precision, it's hard to believe that US cars are better documented, from the same era.

^I always wondered why we can't get more exact data out of Mazda about our cars as well. Would be nice to get all the specifics like the muscle car crowd can....
To the original poster, very strange coincidense, as if it were meant to be that you owned that car haha.

That's what my room mate told me. Now I just need to inform my parents of this interesting fact and maybe they'll think my FB was a wise purchase...

if you run the warranty history or have the original paperwork sometimes you get the build date.

i have done some research, but on the 95 FD's because there were so few, they actually appear to build the cars in color batches rather than by number order.

demonspawns FB was built 4/1/85

Anyone know any current Mazda Executives who might help in the quest to gain insight on what Mazda might still have regarding provenance?
