And I thought I was the one driving a weird car...

Finally got my seven on the road this spring. So I drove it to work last thursday and then to school after that. So here I am pulling into the parking lot at school and people are kind of looking at me a little funny, like they've never seend a 25 year old brown rx7 gsl-se. So I think to myself, "yeah, its pretty cool drving a unique car."

And then I pull into my parking spot, and what do I see two spots over from me...

A DeLorean!!!!!!

I'd never seen one in person, thought it was pretty awesome.

P.S. the plates said "2 Z FUTUR"

Awesome.

When I was in high school like in 1983-1984 I dated a girl whose family had mucho bucks!!! She drove a Delorean. Back then the car was only like 2-3 years old. It was cool. It got a lot of attention. Her's was an Automatic one. Couple that with a pretty anemic Volvo 6 cylinder engine and it was not very aspiring.

Still cool though!!!

Yeah as cool looking as they are they were no sports car. There is no aftermarket or performance parts for them and the drivetrain and suspension was pretty lackluster for such an expensive car.

I should've known there'd be a wankelorean out there. Looked like this one was an auto.

I'd imagine owning one of those cars would be a nightmare. Finding parts and such. Can't really go to the junkyard. Or find some guy parting one out down the street.

There is a place in Texas (I think) that purchased all surplus parts, chassis, engines, etc. from DMC when they filed for bankruptcy, and you can still purchase (if you want to) a DeLorean for ~$50k.

http://www.delorean.com/

They are in Humble, a suburb of Houston. It's a nice shop.

Some webcam shots of the shop and lot: http://www.delorean.com/webcam.asp

My neighbor across the street had a Delorean. That thing was awesome, basically what got me into cars. I remember he had it for a while, and also had a 1989 Miata (like the SA's, built in 89 but called a 90). He was so awesome, but then his resturant burned down and he moved away. He owned a chinese resturant. Burned down about 5 years ago. To this day he still comes by on christmas eve to give my family a present. He is the most awesomest and down to earth guy ever.
