Ford's a bunch off A**hats

I'm not a Ford fan in any way. This:
http://www.adrants.com/2008/01/ford-...ts-returns.php
is one reason why. Does it make any sense at all? I don't think so. Thoughts? Pretty sure if we made a first Gen Calender we wouldn't get slapped with anything like this lawl. Mazda seems more owner friendly!

you know, i really like Ford cars. i own three, a 63 Falcon, an 88 F-150, and a 95 Ranger. they have been great cars and with 208K on the Ranger and 184K on the F-150, reliability has been wonderful.

Ford is overreacting on the matter. if i purchase a vehicle and own it outright, then i believe those pictures belong to me. i have the title to the car, therefore i'm the SOLE owner. furhteremore, i believe that Ford motor co. gave up ownership to the vehicle when they sold it. its all about money and greed and its a slap in the face to the club members of that club.

yes but, when you sell something to someone, such as a vehicle, you lose all ownership rights to that vehicle. when i bought any of my cars, i did not sign a piece of paper stating that i understood that even though i'm paying for a vehicle, someone still owns the rights to that vehicle and all pictures i take are the property of that auto manufacturer. i don't think so.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard yet.

And, Ford doesn't actually own all of Mazda, but instead own a controlling share (33.4%) of Mazda of Japan with which it operates an American joint venture plant in Flat Rock, Michigan called Auto Alliance. Hence why they share a lot of platforms, like the Ford Ranger and Mazda B-series pickup, or the Fusion and the Mazda 3/6 (? IIRC)

Wow, none of you actually read the entire article? It wasn't Ford saying they couldn't print the calendar, it was that CafePress doesn't want to get sued by Ford for printing their logos and trademarks. They didn't fully understand what Ford meant

Ford didn't take kindly to this and asked CafePress, the service the group had chosen to print the calendars, to kill the project claiming all the images in the calendar are the property of Ford...including the Black Mustang Club logo... you know i see this then i see this....(this has been clarified in the update below. in actuality, it was CafePress which, based on past Ford trademark dealings, initially refused to print the calendar)..... my question is when did they update maybe they did it today?

UPDATE: The issue has been resolved. Ford Car Communication's Whitney Drake tells us "Mustang (and other car owners) can take pictures of their cars and make calendars and sell them to whomever they like. They can't however use Ford logos in the calendar." She further clarifies, "The club (Black Mustang Club) and cafe press (or another printer) now has permission to print the calendar. Apparently, CafePress misunderstood the intent of an earlier communication from Ford regarding the use of trademarks on other products they sold when it told Black Mustang Club it would not print its calendars. .......but by this statement you can tell Ford does have a problem with it.

The Mazda 6 and new Mustang are both built at the same plant near Monroe Michigan, just south of Detroit. Same as the Pontiac Torrent, Chevy Equinox and Suzuki Grand Vitara all built at CAMI in Ingersoll Ontario. Gotta love platform sharing.

If we did such a project, we will be fine, just like the Black Mustang club is fine. They just don't want their logo on the printed item. And, I can understand it, because it then looks like their product to the casual eye. They want to protect their brand and not be open to every idiot who wants to print something -- could be good or it could be inappropriate. They don't know, hence the rule. Makes sense to me.

I think Mazda would have a similar position. we could use the RX7 Club logo but not any Mazda logos.

While on the subject of printing issues, you can still get yourself a 2008 Sevenstock calendar! http://www.7stockcalendar.com/ (All photographs were taken on Ford property )

Yep... assuming that this would be a club-sponsored or assisted project.

They have surely let the Ranger age ungracefully. They've put their truck development dollars into the big demand vehicles: F-150, F-250, and crossovers, like the soon to be released Flex and MKT, the Edge, and the new Escape. There's really pretty low demand for small pickups. They sell 800,000 F-150 full size trucks per year, but less than 100,000 Rangers annually. However, I wonder if the gas prices will change consumer demands at all in the future.

I personally dont understand why Ford would be pissy about their logos used . have you seen the trash they put in their brochures. even a crappy calender would be an improvment lol.

Any company is restrictive about 3rd parties using their logos without permission. It's called "protecting the brand." If your logo is used on a web site or print piece, it means that you sponsored it to anyone who sees that image. Companies prefer to protect their brand and may not want it on cheap and crappy calenders with bikini-clad models or something else that they feel is inappropriate or tacky. It's not just a Ford issue; any major corporation will have the same objection.

Again, read this news item in detail, as Ford did allow the calender to proceed, just without their logo.

i hope mazda doesn't sue me when i mod my car.... my other hobby besides mazdas is yoyoing, you know the plastic (& metal) toys on the string. well anyway in the 90s & early 2000s, when modding of yoyos started getting popular, one company (proyo/playmaxx) actually SUED once of its customers for modding a product he'd bought from them.... like... why?? so rediculous...

They can't sue you if you put it on your car. That's a personal "work of art" for non commercial use. Imagine how many people Lucasarts could sue over Star Wars stuff like that. ... they actually have backed off and chilled on some of the youtube sw movies. As an example of protecting IP property.
