Thumbs up First Gen. Find!

Hey Guys,
I know how hard "NEW" housings are to find, especially for you 79/80 guys. So when I found this listing on craigslist, I thought I'd share. They say they will mod them for all 81-85s free too. Here's the link
http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/pts/1445917856.html
Hope this helps some of you.
Ray

Someone correct me, I thought all RX-7 housings were compatible, except for the EGR port on the rear housing and varying chrome surface material. I know the old 12A housings for RX-2 and 3 had different tension bolt pattern.

I think Sa housings had the extra port under the exhaust ports for the emissions, they go into the thermal reactor i think....(correct me if im wrong)

^ Correct. Couldn't figure out if the RB header I bought would accomodate, but it did. Thats why the seal has those cut outs.

Prob with SA housings is that they are the only versions NOT interchangeable front-to-rear, like the FBs are. That's what make them so annoyingly unique...

The exhaust ports are asymmetric, for one thing. Check out the gasket:

Passages for the secondary air (which fed in from the bottom of the thermal reactor) are different for front and rear rotor.

Why would a header have an accommodation for a thermal reactor?

I didn't expect it to accomodate, but I didn't know if it should allow the air out of those holes. Besides, how would I know whether it would need to accomodate, this is my first rotary. It works and I have the rat's nest cleared out. Just drive it and wreak havoc on people's windshields and quality of breathing.

Yupyup... When they switched to the Cat exhaust, the secondary air injection ports no longer routed thru the exhaust face.

And on the California-specific front housing for the SA, there's an additional port for the EGR passage, making a total of five passages thru the gasket.

When switching to a header, all those extra ports need to get blocked off by the header flange.
