Engine Won’t Start

Hey. So I’m new to working with rotary engines. Not too long ago I bought a ‘79 rx7 out here in NorCal. The previous owner told me that the only thing that needed to be done was clean the carburetor. I cleaned it but then decided to change it out with a Holley from Racing Beat. Before I changed the carburetor the engine wouldn’t start after 4 days after I purchased it. About a month later after changing the carburetor and giving it a new fuel pump as well it started back up again. 2 days went by I went out for a drive to see all was good and it was. I parked it in a lot about a mile from my home and the engine wouldn’t want to start. The starter went bad after getting it checked out at my local parts store. Now I have a new starter but engine won’t turn over still. I know the engine is still good because it was just running but I don’t know what the problem could be. Sorry for the long backstory

Does the starter make an sounds? Does the starter trigger wire have 12V?

If the starter cranks then that means the trigger wire has 12V.

When you say the engine "won't turn over" are you saying even though the starter is cranking the engine is not spinning? Or is it that the engine will not fire to life?

If the engine won't fire to life then check the spark and fuel.

Engine won’t fire to life. I bought recent spark plugs but I don’t know if they fouled again and I have to buy some more, haven’t checked recently.

1. Check if you have spark
2. Check if the carb is getting fuel.

Don't worry about new plugs until these are checked.

No need to replace plugs when they get fouled from flooding. Just remove them, hit them with carb cleaner and a wire brush to make them like new. Also what KC just said.

So I just checked the sparks it looks like they are good even though they are a bit soiled but all is good for the most part. Engine was flooded so i did the deflooding method and ima let it sit for a bit before I try to start it up. Should I do anything else before hand?
