Daily Driver totaled...

Well today was one of those days. A lady pulled in front of me and nailed my neon. Airbags went and coolant was leaking. Everything was bent up. I'm okay, and so is everyone in the other car, that's all that truly matters. It was semi-sad to see me lose the neon that was a nice beater car, but now I get to get a new car!!! So I was wondering what do you guys think about a Ford Ranger. I know Mazda and Ford are good friends so I thought I'd go with a Ford. What do you guys know about the reliability of Rangers? I found a 1996 w/ 100,000 miles, 4 cyl. and it's a 5 spd. Let me know what you guys think about the decision. I want to know about these cars a little more.

I had a ranger splash. It was a fun little truck. Pretty durable and reliable. Cheap parts!
Go for it.

That's what I'm looking at, haha. They seem pretty sturdy. Thanks for the input.

Sad to hear that your neon got totaled! Good thing you are ok, and that it wasn't your RX

Great truck. Friend of mine had one and we thrashed the living $%&# out of it day in and out.

Still runs to this day.

Those four cylinder rangers are super easy to work one, even though the 8 spark plug config (if i am thinking of the right 2.3) can be a pain. They are a tank and will not let you down, and last a while too.
Parts are also super cheap.

make sure its a 4x4. my buddy has one he beats the **** out of it. but he burned the clutch out in a month but after he got a new one he did some nice burnouts. ya i say go for it as well. if somthing happon to my civic i would go for a Ford F-150 4x4 or a Dodge Ram 4x4.

any pics of the neon?

i had a 95 Ranger. i sold it at 210K. it was a 2.3L with a 5spd. hands down the best truck i've ever owned. it never left me stranded and was always 100% dependable.

That sucks, at least your ok. It seems people are paying less attention or just being dumber drivers every year. I was rear ended in my 06 Commander 4 weeks ago from some dumb teenager texting . . . totaled her clavier and put about $1800 in damages to my jeep.

Goodluck with the Ranger they are built like a tank

I prefer the v6 but just stay away from the automatics used on 90s
vintage Rangers and Exploders, they are crap and don't last more than
about 80K between rebuilds. My 93 Mazda Navajo (Explorer Sport 2 door
rebadged) has been through 3 of them so far and its got 225000 miles
on it. I agree the Ranger/Explorers are tanks, rust is your biggest enemy,
especially in PA.

Yeah, at least the winter is over, but I will check the fenders for rust. Thanks for the info.

it didn't fall on its roof yet? the cars are gone, but we go up to oregon in the winter, and you'd always see explorers upside down, even when its not snowy.

I've been thinking, since summer is coming up would making the RX7 a daily driver for a couple months be a good idea? The money I'm getting isn't enough to buy a Ranger that is a really nice one, and I would like to get a ranger that I can have for a while. By later summer I would be able to get a nice one. The money I'm getting is enough though to get the RX7 on the road, and make it a good daily driver for a couple of months. What do you guys think? I always have the back-up Buick/V6 Mustang from relatives.

If it was me, I would just finish the RX and drive it a while. Sorry to hear about your accident.
