Curious about my weird ass paint
Curious about my weird *** paint
So obviously this CAN'T be stock(or can it?) - at least not the stupid blue stripes. I'm curious about the two shades of red - They're glittery. did 7's come with freakin' Disco boner glittered red paint? It's been bothering me lately, because if it's a custom paint job, the car was stripped and painted professionally. I think the inside under the carpet is glittery too - I'll have to double check.
as i was typing this it got me thinking - when i had my scout II i could get a line setting ticket that told me exactly what a particular vin number came with, can I do that with my 7?

also - the PO doesn't know jack about it, except for he spray painted the two dents. :/

I'm kind of bummed about that, actually. If thats the silver i'm thinking of I kinda like it.
custom silver metallic, coor code V9 was only available in 85 and was a replacement for tornado silver metallic, color code K8. your car now looks to be sunrise red, color code RH. whats the paint look like in the engine bay?
It's the brighter red in the engine bay - and the darker red in the interior under the carpet i think - I'll pull some more of it back and see if it's silver anywhere. I don't think it is but now i want to see.
Lol, it is a salvage title.worst case scenario in my mind someone bough it from pick a part for the vin and slapped it on another body - but then again I've gotten a car from pick a part that was completely fine, sometimes people just have to get rid of their car. Buddy of mine bought a 71 maverick that looked and drove new from pick a part, too.
I just find it odd that's its the darker red on the inside, too.
Didn't think about it being stolen...... That'd be a shame if it was once.

if its an 84 and its the darker red under the carpet it was probably originally persimmon red metallic color code R7. persimmon red was not available in 85 but was available on an 84. post a pic of youe engine bay, under carpet, vin tag on the firewall, and pull off one of the dash caps on the end exposing two of the dash bolts. there you will also see the original color of the car. people generally dont remove the dash to paint the car and this is an area that will almost always be untouched.

There were at least 2 different metallic red colors used between 80 and 84. I happen to own one of each......
I'll definitely have to double check all that. where at is it stamped on the firewall? i know it has that tag that's about the size of a credit card, but i didn't know it was stamped on there also.
I'll take pictures and check behind the dash tomorrow after i get home.

Doesn't sound like that VIN matches the car originally. The VIN shows up in a few
spots on the car. I'd check to make sure they are all consistent.
I think the FSM documents where they can be found.
If they aren't you might want to make sure the provence of the salvage title is legit.
I'd use a lawyer to do it just so you don't get tangled in some legal mess if its not legit.
Oh and until this is all cleared up I wouldn't post any details to the web like the
VIN etc.

VIN is stamped directly under the credit card sized stamped metal one. Debris may have filled up the numbers. Wipe off the area of the firewall around the credit card area and you should find it. That is, if the credit card is on the RIGHT side of the car.
I went to the hardware store today and as i was getting into my car a lady came over to me and asked about my 7, turns out her husband painted it that color when he owned it - he now does custom work on yachts instead of cars. Neat. I'm getting in touch with him and I'll have the entire history about the car. When i get it I'll post it - I'm sure it's going to be a good story from what she was telling me.
so far what I've learned is that in highschool he put it together from 2 7's (pretty much a frame up resto') one rust bucket with a good motor and one straight body with a shot motor and a crap interior, and painted it instead of going to senior prom, lol. when he primered it his respirator got clogged and he kept on painting after he took it off - hence the blue stripes (sounded like a good idea at the time, maaaaannnn). he'd removed all the smog stuff, put the racing beat header on it, started making it a really awesome car, then drove it from the east coast over to here after the car survived hurricane katrina with no more than a couple water spots on the glass. he really loved the car, kept up maintenance on it better than most people take care of their children it sounded like.
then he couldn't afford to finish it and had to sell it. sold it for way less than he should have, then that guy sold it, then I bought it from dumb kid. this was over the span of 3 or 4 years, so i'm fairly amazed that the car stayed Somewhat close to him.
That's the quick of it - I've been emailing him back and forth and am working on getting the full nitty gritty of the resto and the rest of the history, he was emailing me while at work so i got the short stuff.

Yeah, I'm pretty pleased about it. I've been learning little things that he did to it over time, like bypass the fuel pump stuff and wire a switch to it since it quit on him one day, but that's been fixed. the smog equip' had been completely removed by him and the the PO to me had it puck back on, only to be removed by me again. the interior was left alone since he owned it, right down to the ripped seats but had been kept in excellent condition.
The motor came out of a 84 GS, I think he said. He did the second gen ignition it had when i bought it, but he did it right. the PO to me is the one who screwed it up and made it ping and knock.
Next email i get will hopefully have more history about him putting it together and driving it from the east coast to the west coast! That's what I want to hear
