Control Arm Bushings

1984 Mazda Rx7 GSL-SE.

I replaced my upper and lower control arm bushings.

The replacements are polyurethane.

I took the arms and bushings to a machine shop to have them pressed in..

The bushings are fully pressed in, however the assemblies are wider than the mounting brackets.

Looking for suggestions on how to get these to fit in the mounts.

You'll see in pics 1 and 2 there is a much as a 1/4 in. of bushing above the insert in the new bushings.

Pics 3 and 4 show the original bushing, which are flush with the arm housing.

Thoughts?

Maybe it's not pushed all the way in? Looks like there's a small gap

If those are pressed all the way in and are still too wide to fit back in place, I don't see anyway forward except removing one again and measuring everything to see what may be wrong. Are they just too wide for your application? Can they be thinned and reinstalled? Shouldn't the inner bushing be the widest part and the polyurethane flush with the outside?

You are correct.

I am going to try to use my drimmel, with the wheel meant for plastic cutting, to trim down the bushing.

Are these the poly bushings from RA?

You might want to use the cutting wheel instead as it'll cut faster but it may form hot poly bullets shooting at you as you cut through them. lol
