Check out this cherry 1979 Rx7!
The RX7 this thread was made for appears to still be available. I emailed him a couple weeks ago for another viewing and he didnt reply. Maybe he's mad cuz I offered $3000.
That car will be there a while at his asking price. ($4788)

It doesnt look anything like the pics....
I am looking at a 280z and a 944 this weekend. That rx7 actually is one of the best overall i've seen, and ive seen quite a few.

Some new shots in his ad now.
The lock on the gascap door doesn't look original; different shape entirely from my stock one.
The relays and voltage regulator in the engine compartment are clearly not original.
Interesting to see that the armrests on the '79 did not have the chrome trim cap and beading that the '80's did. Never noticed that before.

I noticed those aren't the stock door panels either. At least in my '80, there was a "chrome" (plastic) ring around the door handles, and another "chrome" (platic) ring around the top screw for the armrest. The armrest is also a different shape.
The car looks clean, but if it doesn't want to rev, something has to be wrong. My 12A loves it above 6k- and that's an old, worn-out, 120k motor.
There are good deals on SA/FB's out there. You just have to find them. I saw an SA on eBay not too long ago, fresh paint, clean, for $1200. Made me wish I'd held out.
But, meh, I love my car.
EDIT: I guess according to Divin's post, the '79 Door panels were different than the '80? I thought those were newer-style, they look "newer" than the fake chrome that adorns my interior (well, did, but it's all busted up)

I am looking for the best condition rx7 up to about $3500 MAX for a real cherry one. thats just almost non existent these days. there are a few real cherry ones here and there but theyre advertised between $4000-$6000..
I almost decided to buy it but times are tough right now. Figured someone here must have seen it, given how mint it looks.
Definitely not mine, I had a 1985 once, it was not even close to this nice.

DivinDriver, you are right, the voltage regulator doesn't look stock. But some of the other cosmetic things that were mentioned look identical to my 79. The keyhole on the gas lid is the same. The interior door panels, door handle rings, and center console are all the same as my 79. The only thing that looks different in the interior is the radio and the big mess of wires sticking out from under the dash.

It's still interesting after all this time to discover how much year-to-year cosmetic variation there was, even within the SA's. Tons of little details changed from year to year, never mentioned in any of the general literature.
In some ways, the 79 interior looks cleaner, without the chrome accents and silver-painted console faces.
