You got screwed on this, man.
There is NO reason it should take 7 months. He should give it to you for either free, or the cost of primer and paint.
That Mercedes can get you more money on the side if you sell it out right than trading it.
Its a clean looking car!
Think about it;
$600 in AC
plus initial cost of car
plus anything else you bought for it
plus YOUR labor
Youre losing on this one. Maybe you can rework a deal!

I bought the car for $1000. Invested about $1000 getting it up to snuff. Gave it to my wife to drive because her car went off lease....... SHE ABSOLUTELY hated the old Mercedes. The icing on the cake was she took off to hard in the rain and did a 180 in the middle of the road and almost wrecked it. (The old car has no traction control, ABS, stability control) SO in a flash I said screw it.... I will trade for the work on the Mazda.
I took the money I had saved for the restoration of the Mazda and put a huge chunk down on a 2009 Smart for my wife.....she loves the smart.
Also when I offered to trade the Benz for the paint job, I was CONSTANTLY repairing things that were broken when the PO owned it...... Guess what....when you work and work and repair everything.....you finally FIX THE DAMN THING!!!!
I have been driving it to work for two months....not a single issue wrong now.
I kinda wanna keep the Benz also, but after tax time now, I have no extra $$$$$ to pay off the Mazda restoration.

an old Mercedes??? If you do, spend a little extra on getting one. A wise man told me once "the most expensive thing is a cheap Mercedes"... buy one that has all the BROKE **** fixed.
AC and climate control system is very problematic. Odometers always give it up, so you could have a car that shows 200,000 miles but it really has 300,000. Don't believe the car will run 1,000,000 miles like everyone says they will.....350,000 is the norm. Don't think the diesel will get 40 MPG. 25 is about right.
Mine is nice now....I just own 6 cars and really don't need it now.

They screwed up and didn't give your car the priority it deserved, and as a customer, you should be demanding compensation for the inconvenience and delay, not lying down and giving them anything.
I would be demanding that they only charge you for paint and primer, as the 7 months of non-labor offset any labor costs they might have charged.
I would have understood the delay if it was a friend or something that was doing you a favor and painting your car at his shop or something, but this is a ******* business and they're not completing jobs like they should.
I don't mean to rant, but I've had bad experiences with paint and body shops before, one similar to yours. I just pulled it out of their shop after 2 months, all primered up and ****. I refused to pay them and had a lawyer call to threaten to sue and they released the car next day.

He reluctantly agreed to do it....I just never knew it would take this long. I knew it would take time....not this long.

They do seem to hold up well going up hills though. I drove her back to Texas from San Diego over Christmas and held 70+ MPH on the 8 coming out of San Diego to the Imperial Valley......(pretty steep hill!!!)

Got it out only to put her right back in the shop!!!
How in the FU&K can a car that spent its whole life in Arizona now be popping up rust spots??
They are repairing two spots in the rear fender wells....(I know I know....hatch drains) but rust bubble are popping up on the panel between the hood and the windshield.
Car is supposed to be back out this week...
Thing that is disapointing, the excitement of this car is basically gone because of the anger I have for it spending 11 months in the body shop!!! This guy has RUINED my love for this car......
When it is finally out for good, I will shoot pics and report back!!!

BTW, I'm currently naval jellying your old air duct; it'll likely be in the car before Sevenstock. Took a lot of cussing and sweating to get the heat exchanger and the lower air pipe off (very rusted in place; even an impact wrench wouldn't budge the heatex nuts!) but the duct itself appears to be in fine functional shape, just rust-stained like crazy on the outside & in need of serious gasket abrading.
