I already searched, and found only one hit for 175/70r13. Haynes manual says 185/70r13.

The 175 will be thinner, but I drive like an old lady. Last ticket was in 1987.

No reason not to.

You'll cut through rain puddles better, and have a little better fuel millage. But why go skinner?

Because there is a special at Sam's Club: $64 for Michelin X Radial DT - P175/70R13 82T. And if I buy 4 , there is a $70 rebate . Plus mounting is free.

Draw back is I have to buy their stupid membership for $40, and the tires would have less traction. But consumer reports says that model of Michelin's has great traction.

but Sam's Club does NOT have the $70 rebate.

This is giving me a headache!! $40 membership, rebate, no they don't have the rebate, tires are under spec anyway.....Oh screw it!! I'll get the right size or wider if it lessens the likelyhood of a car wreck!!!!

thanks for your input Quigdou

185's were the stock size from the factory. You can fit 175's on the stock rims if that's what you want. The S model cars had 165's mounted to their steel rims from the factory. I doubt you'd feel the difference, especially if your back there circiling with the ole laddies.

nika avatar v344 ........... the right size ....... UTQG = 500AA 85T for $51 available from Pepboys (Big 10 ) exclusively.

anyone heard of these? mount for dry traction, and reverse mount them for wet traction

and Pepboys??? The radiator they sold me said would fit my car expanded like a balloon. Pepboys is flakey, and their jingle sucks!!

Banzai, 205's are $$$$ astronomical!! almost like rims As for rims I want to make my car unique by running OEM rims.

I made a spread sheet of all the tires for a mazda rx-7 available in huntsville alabama, capital of the the redneck dirty south.

in addendum...Sam's Club charges $15 for installation, the bastards!!

i run the 175's in the front with the 185's in the rear. threw some junkers on there till my RWL's come in the mail for christmas. either way you wont notice,

actually with my power steering on the fritz it makes it alot easier to steer with the smaller ones up front, at least i think, and the rear is your main concern for traction, more weight and grip back there anyhow.

i know sears could get the coopers, but you had to wait a day or two, i just didn't have that luxury the meet was the same day and i didnt want to drop the cash.. lol

I miss my 215 Sumitomos. Even on stock rims, those were great/cheap tires.

Kentetsu, 185/70r13 Sumitomo HTR200's are around. I had the 205/70r13. After 7 years/28,000 mi. they still have tread but are dry rotted.

The salesman at Big10 Tires steered my away from the Nika Avatars and towards the Cooper 1000's. He said the Nika's don't always roll true (round). I just don't want to have the tires suddenly delaminate like those POS's firestones!!!

No one has ever had Nika Avatars????

Where would that be? I've seen nothing but 175's since early summer.

you are right, I went back and found out that the site didn't >>>actually take orders<<< for sumitomo 185/70r13's ...............nor anyother tire.

As for me , it looks like it will be 185/70r13 Kumho or Cooper's

New rims? I think not since the next time I'm in the market for tires, 14 and 15 inch will be scarce.........if the car even lasts that long?

I'm running 175s right now, but it makes my poor car look like it's been nuetered.

Gotta find some fat rubber somewhere without breaking the bank or settling for crappy performance...

Every wal mart around here have those in stock.. No need to buy a membership. Just got a set. Mounted and balanced under $250 out the door.

Ehhh not many rims out there in the bolt pattern and by the time you spend the cash on them you could have upgraded to gslse or 2nd gen stuff. And use any wheels you can find laying in a scrapyard for 25$ a piece. Save money in the long run and more availibility.

mike p 28,

What is your verdict? Are the tires worth a crap?? No UTQG is listed. But UTQG can be anything a tire company wants it to be. >>>throbbing headache<<<

anyone try this? inorder not to make a bad decision on bad tires get one of each.

A sumitomo fro the left front , uniroyal tiger paw for the right front (both 185 wide), and two 205's for the rear, a toyo and a hoosier.

Think of it as a Design of Experiments for tires. I think I'm beating a dead horse, and should just get any set of new tires.

I think thats a very bad idea as it would probably yield different tire handling
characteristics at each wheel. This would make the car very squirrelly to drive.

the first puddle of shallow water you hit youll be in a ditch. lol ask me how i know. different tread wear, and tire patterns, divert the water differently. it wont be pretty.

just upgrade to SE bolt pattern, with studs. its much easier or spend the cash and go FC 5 bolt. either way theres way more options for wheels thus much more for tires as well. 13" wheels are just pointless anyway.

IDK why people still run them, maybe they make them feel faster when they can chirp 2nd.

drill the hubs press in studs OR get the axels from the SE and just throw them in,,, and get some SE rotors and calipers... get SE hubs up front and rotors.... and your done lol

same thread on the brake lines, same spindle. not 100% sure about the caliper brackets but im sure there not that different. if any at all. take a trip to the junkyard or rockauto.com price them all.

not very much compared to re-drilling everything, making brackets, swapping lines, and swapping front stuts, and all that to go 5-lug, BUT its even more compatible with rim options but its more time and money so the choice is yours.

the only thing is... it depends on what year your car is. if its a base or GSL, making it harder. or easier
