Brand New 13B Engines?

Has anyone else seen this?
https://www.mazda.com/en/innovation/...story-2021-04/

I spoke to a woman at Mazda North America who confirmed the article on Mazda's website. She said, yeah, Mazda has been building the 13B rotary for retail sale all along and she suggested I just call my local dealer to get one. So I did. The first service dept guy just said, no man, they haven't made the rotary for years. Sorry bud. Then I emailed him the URL. Didn't hear back. Next Service dept manager I called said, oh yeah, we can get it, but he thought all he could get me was the REW. He hadn't seen this article yet either. So I gave him the link. He was surprised and now he's calling around internally to find out where to get the one I want (84-85 13b 6-port NA) Mazda claims they make 10 variations of the engine to this day, to fit whatever RX7 or RX8 people have.

All this time I thought you couldn't get a new rotary engine. Anyone have more info about this? I'll hear back from Austin at Dublin Mazda this weekend to find out more, but curious if anyone here knew about this. Thoughts?

When you get a price backs from the dealership, I'd be interested to see what they cost (84SE). Very cool link, thank you.

Cool article and also a link they have down at the bottom, but is just parts lists for FD and FC. Only an FD core engine is listed.

https://www.mazda.com/globalassets/e...parts-list.pdf

And now they finally show what the feature cast into the top of each rotor housing is used for! Looks like they use a tool to temporarily hold the stack together until all tension bolts get installed. The tool grabs these lugs.

Reading the article, I didn't get the interpretation that anything 'new' was about to come out for the FC/FB. Seemed to show and discuss 13b REW FD engines which they have always been making and you can get from your local Dealership!

I think j9fd3s can tell us if there is something more coming down the pipeline. For some reason I thought he has some connection to Mazda N/A and I think he will chime in soon!

Uh, how can I go on the rotary engine factory tour? Already planning a trip to Japan, this isn't something I want to miss. Might even leave with a shortblock..

so the engines, the 10 variations are the FD manual, the late FC turbo, and then all of the different Rx8 flavors. (high power, low power, automatic, manual, series 1/series2)
for a GSL-SE they make rotor housings, in fact Mazda USA has something like 80 of them right now

we have talked to the head of R&D and they are willing to reprint basically anything as long as they can make money on it. the miata stuff is driven by the factory restoration program, but the Rx7 stuff seems to be driven by the Japanese shops or something.

i don't know what is coming, but the Rx7 list was updated in October, so we are probably due for an update, so far the SA22 isn't on the list, but the regular parts have sold so well they never really went NLA in the first place, you can't bring stuff back if it never left

i'm curious as well to see what they would cost, and if it's a dealer only thing, guaranteed to be a pricey item.

i kind of figured it would be that way after reading it and thinking about it. rotor housings for the SE engine is better than nothing.
