Bin Door Refurbish

Anyone have any ideas on how to remove the years of sunbaked remnants of 100 mile an hour tape from this bin door?

I'm going to repaint it, so as long as the answer does leave a trace I should be good.

Sounds stupid but try water just to see. You *might* get really lucky. After that, simple green full strength, maybe some WD40. Rubbing alcohol as a next step.

Lacquer thinner will melt the plastic, as would denatured alcohol.

Lacquer thinner, lighter fluid or paint thinner would be your best best, that duct tape is nasty stuff.

Like Toruki says, watch out for the plastic, too much contact with the solvents might not be what you're looking for.

A good detergent wash, followed some rubbing alcohol before painting should make them look good.

Here's a video for some products:

How are you going to reattach them to the bins?

I would give "de-solv-it electrical and cable cleaner" a try. It's based on orange peel extracts (d-lemonene) and I've been using it to remove goo for some time. In general it's not aggressive on plastic but a try on a a hidden corner is always a good practice. If stay away from thinners and especially acetone.

Go gone, that stuff obliterates tape residue, DO NOT USE ACETONE! YOU WILL DESTROY YOUR PLASTIC, SHAME ON THE GUY WHO RECOMENDED IT , LOL!

Started with the baby oil and 220 grit sand block.

Seems to be working pretty well.

Don't use sandpaper! 220 grit will remove the tape residue but will also damage surface texture of the plastic. You'll end up having to sand the whole thing and it's gonna look weird.

Goo Gone sounds like the winner here.

Forget about the texture, 220 grit is going to cut right through the plastic , that's super aggressive haha .

I would just use Goo Gone. It will work well enough that you won't have to use sandpaper. You will have to let it sit and soften the glue residue and it may take a couple of applications but it will eventually wipe clean.
