Bin Cover Hinges
The tape forms the pivot of the hinge, I removed the bin and pulled apart the lid and taped it on the back side of hinge (If the original flexible plastic hing was still intact, it would be taping along the flat portion.
Here's a couple pictures. On the second picture you can just make out the sticky side of the tape behind the hinge.

Ahhh, makes since. I had four bins; only one came with the remnant of half a hinge.
The rest, nothing.
That's why I was asking how you did it.
Now I understand; but it won't work for me, unfortunately.
The rest, nothing.

Google "piano hinge". They are long thin hinges that come in a wide variety of sizes and might be perfect for this application. You'll still have to pop-rivet or screw the hinge in place, but they're made for applications like this. Boat owners use them for bin hinges all the time.
Yep; went that route earlier. So far the hinges I've used, including a Home Depot piano type hinge, show.
The clearance between the bin rim and the lid is miniscule. Velcro, or maybe double stick tape of magnets are the only things I've found so far that keep the profile and look of the bin as 'original' as possible.
