to beat a civic
to beat a civic
Okay this kid at work has a boosted civic ek hatch that he is always running his mouth about. Always talking about beating people at races. so my question for you is what do i need to do to my 85 rx7 to be able to whip his ***. keep in mind that i have everything torn apart and have a 12a and a possible 13b engine to play with. this kid is a pain in my *** and he wont shut up about his "wonderful" civic. i keep telling him that its a girls car and that i could probably beat him in my durango. but he knows i have a rex. and all he talks about is how he would whoop my ***. so ideas would be great. i would think i would definately need to go boosted to beat him since rx7s dont have a ton f power. i plan on getting everything completed by summer time. and also keep in mind that i am a mechanic so i can do everything myself. so shout out some ideas and lets shut up this little kid once and for all.
thanks in advance.
thanks in advance.
really direct? so a 12a turbo wont beat it? then 13b it is. and ricky i am a mechanic which doesnt mean i know which way to go to beat a boosted civic. I work on brakes all day. i know basically that a 13b turbo would have a better shot at it but i wanted to know if there was a different way to go about it. the best idea i had would be to somehow beat him with no turbo at all but its looking like that isnt going to happen. and no i am not going to put a sbc in my rx7 that is sacreligous.
so direct: can i do it carb/turboed or do i really have to go efi?

yes i am going to spend whatever i want to spend to do it. i only paid 150 bucks for the car. and i plan on keeping it for a long time so i am doing everything right on it. i plan on at least 10000 by the time i am done.

Another way is to use a SC, if its straight line accel you need it will give a lot more torque without turbo lag. Only issue is it does drop off around 6-7K rpm unlike a turbo. Its easier to install and setup tho, possibly cheaper if you can repurpose an Eaton M-90 from say a turbo Ford tbird or something. Just an idea.
Port your 12a and boost it...there's lots of options, besides you didn't mention what the guy is boosting....if he's only boosting 6lbs or 40 million + vtec.....if it has a vtec i wouldn't **** with it
thanks guys great options i was actually thinking of supercharging my first rx7 i ever owned. that isnt a bad idea actually. i may just do that to see what its like since not too many people have done it.
if you do, do some decent port work to make the most of your setup!
Do a blow-through setup on your 12A. Much more efficient and powerful than a supercharged equivalent.
Later, if (when) it blows - you swap the 13BT setup in there. Most of the accessories will interchange, especially if you do it the simple way (using a stock S5 Turbo manifold).

yeah, because vtec makes it soooo fast..right.
cheapest route:
you paid $150 for the rx7. just race him as is. during the race as soon as he starts to pass you pull a ***** to the wall pit maneuver on him. if youre luck youll spin him out, total the car, and kill him. then all of your problems will be solved and all youll have to do is replace a few of your body panels.
seriously:
quit building YOUR car to make SOMEONE ELSE look bad. if youre that easily controlled, then you have much bigger issues than a punk kid ragging you at work. do it for YOURSELF. period.

One note about the Eaton M90: if you get one, you'll have to convert to EFI or blow-through.
I don't know what your power goals are, but Camden's setups, though well-made and fun, probably ain't gonna cut it for you. Or at least the 7" won't; I don't have any experience with their bigger superchargers. A better bet might be some kind of Lysholm or centrifugal blower.
Or a turbo.

Dude, you should totally supercharge a 13b swap with a Camden 9" blower and a huge carb. Wanna be baller about it? Really baller about it? Measure HP gain per 1000 RPM and when it starts to drop off toss in a 50HP Dry Shot of nitrous RPM activated for slightly before the power drops on the blower and it'll also combat the intake heat from the blower.
You'll throw fireballs and and have horrible fuel economy. No less than a 48mm 2bbl on something like that and expect to destroy a lot of parts.
Should be fun!
EDIT: I think it would work with a stock rearend.

You can still do a draw thru on the Eaton you just have to make sure it doesn't have the vinyl stuff on the rotors. Some models did and some didn't. You want the ones that don't so the fuel won't dissolve them.
The hard part about the Eaton is you have to fab up the intake and carb adaptor. I don't think theres any available off the shelf for rotaries (intake that is). Unless you can get your hands on a used Atkins intake and modify it.

It would be much cheaper to borrow Directfreak's car and spank him with it.
