BTW, that is a 3-rotor Mazda factory race engine.

It's only $48 grand... I thought you wanted to beat this guy?

lol only 48 grand. nice.. only a little more than i make in a year.. believe me i would totally do it if i had the money. i also dont think i need a 48grand engine to beat a civic. especially one that is a pos.

Wouldn't it be cheaper and easier to just make his car slower?

Until you've given us a power target and/or a budget, we can't really make meaningful suggestions.

sorry i was being sarcastic haha...and percent 7 is right, if you don't have a certain power goal it's kinda hard to shoot for one.

Basically what it comes down to is how hardcore you want to go. Being a mechanic you can at least do all the labour yourself and save tons of money. Believe me I know!... Basically any car can be made faster than any other car, just depends on how much time and money you want to spend.

The big question is. What are your ultimate goals? Do you want it streetable? Weekend style driver so comfort isn't a necessity? Etc. I say go 12A Bridgeport with a good size turbo to go with it. Turbo II trans and at least some moser axles in a GSL rear end. Then of course you should throw in RE-Speed's coilovers and Rack & Pinion to make it handle well as well as going fast. Then add in the RE-Speed big brake kit so you can stop with all that speed. You should be able to take him, V-Tec and all

A turbo civic can be anywhere from 15.5 to 10's. Get some info on his ride. IE: What engine, what turbo ect ect

ok let me try and answer some of these comments.

percent seven:I dont really have a budget per say because most of this is an ongoing process so my original plan was just to boost the 12a i have in there right now and wait until it explodes to try something else. i have the interior gutted except the dash and i have put down some thin dynomat like sound deadener material for heat and noise reduction. i was doing most of this last summer as soon as i got the car except i got stuck on deciding what seats to put in the car. i was debating on either some form of racing seat or some rx8 seats because i like the way they look. my goal was to do interior including all gauges and gadgets i need first then go to suspension and brakes then engine and finally body. I plan on having this car for a very long time now that i am in a stable relationship and job setting. so as for power goal i would like to shoot for over 250hp which isnt that bad of a goal.

dan young: your car looks sick.. i had an idea to widebody mine at a later date but i could never get any straight answers on what rims and spacing and all that i would need.

firebird: I would like it to be a weekend warrior. i have a daily driver or 2 laying around so this car would definately not be one of those. i would whip it out on an occasional weekend or a trip to the local drag track. i was originally planning on swapping out to the gsl se suspension for a few reasons. but your plan there sounds pretty good. what i need to do is find a turbo that i could use for both a 12a and later a 13b. any suggestions?

and starfox: i will find out that info tomorrow when i work with him. i know he just got the car (traded a dsm for it) so i dont think he knows all he has on it. i am sure its a 70 trim turbo and he has a huge front mount IC. he mostly street races with it but hasnt told me about any kills that are impressive. i think i may have a link to some pics on myspace

I'm so surprised no one has said this , but just get some nitrous oxide.

Seriously, I think you can get 150 or 200 shot for like $400

It will be quick and easy.

250 WHP is easy with a small (well, for a rotary) turbo on either a 12A or 13B. If you want to stay carbed, talk to Robert at RotaryShack, and he'll hook you up. Otherwise, get a TII engine, intercooler, a decent 3" exhaust, upgraded fuel system, crank up the boost, and get it tuned and you're done.

I have met a few turbo civic and integra guys here in the bay area. They do talk a whole lot of ****, biggest problems they have is traction if you guys are racing from start Ill put my money on spinning tires for the honda. My one friend with a sr20det w/ down pipe ,hks intercooler and exhaust went up against a so called 300 rwhp turbo civic and smoked him. Funny stuff because of all the **** talking the turbo civic guy was saying and after the race all he could say was .... traction this .. traction that .... Go with a T2 set up . good luck

yeah he keeps sayin that if we race it has to be from a 10 mph roll. i think what i will do is rebuild the 12a i have in the car and bridgeport it. then turbo that sucka with a blowthrough carb just to see what i can get out of it that way and then while i am driving that one i will grab a t2 and build it up also. but thanks for all your ideas and everything now i just need to figure out what seats i want.

ask this kid what kind of fuel management he is running, that will tell you how serious he is.

Honestly that car looks like it is going to whoop your ***. I know kids with boosted civics that keep up with my TII and I'm prolly right around 240-250 whp.

One guy I met that had one just got one of those ebay kits in and his car wasn't nearly tuned and I wasn't much faster than him.

SPRAY the car, nitrous and a set of drag radials will guarantee the win.

No. Don't waste time an money rebuilding and porting your current engine.
Use it in stock configuration. Rebuild a new 13B for the future.

It does have a very large (and laggy) turbo.

I doubt that he is running a stock ECU. He probably has a modified Hondata ECU.. You can't run boost on a unmodified stock ECU.

so turbo the 12a as is? and build a 13b while i am driving the 12a correct? that sounds like a plan except the one that is in the car hasnt ran for over 2 years.
