You are right!!! The 300 rpm instant increments are me loosing major traction on the inside tire.

This course was a pretty tight one. I am lifting the inside rear tire, unloading it and then spinning it.

Contributing factors are old tires (7 year old Yokohama A008R), and the fact that the course was wet (it had been raining all night) you could see puddles in the video.

To mitigate the problem I am going to do the following:

Set rear sway bar to tightest setting.
New tires

If this does not help the problem, then I will tear into my rear axle to make sure the LSD is working correctly and put tighter clutches in her.

Good observation.... you can really tell the "inside tire blowing" problem listening to it live behind the wheel..... unfortunately...it eats up valuable time!!

I had the same rear tire lifting issues a few years back. Fixed it somewhere along the line, probably when I added the LSD rear end. I would say that if you are still having that issue, your LSD is toast. But then again, I've got pretty massive swaybars too, which greatly limit body roll altogether. So many upgrades over the years, its hard to keep track of what mod resulted in what gains. lol.

As far as tire width goes, I figure I never lost a race due to a lack of horsepower. More grip should equal more speed as long as you are quick enough at the wheel to take advantage of it. If I had to lose a few horsepower to gain that much more rubber, I don't even have to think about it.

Any folks have any advice about rebuilding my LSD???

Also Kentetsu, my rear sway bar has 3 positions of adjustment. I plan on moving the adjustment to the inner slot on the bar ( stiffer...I think).... does your rear sway bar have adjustment like mine??

find an open spot where you can set everything down and write a note for each part, categorize which parts are within spec and which aren't; order the replacement parts. it is said that the lsd units should be rebuilt periodically, but i don't know anyone that does that

you can buy the thicker clutches from mazdatrix. they are about 40 dollars each and you need 4

80's Old School: My bar has three holes at each end of the bar, so you bolt the end link into the hole that you want to use. Mine are set at the "shortest" point (closest to the bend in the bar, leaving the maximum amount sticking out past the end link, if that makes sense). This is the "firmest" setting for the bar. Using the hole at the end of the bar would be the "softest" setting.

And for the LSD, I think I read somewhere about adding shims to adjust the "grabbiness" of the unit. A search might turn up a decent writeup somewhere. Good luck...

There are some decent write-ups around here about rebuilding an LSD. I have the same problem myself, and its extremely annoying.

So when the inside wheel is spinning that means that the LSD isn't locking up the way it should? Because when I mentioned it to someone else and they said that the spinning of the inside wheel was actually characteristic of an LSD and that means it is working. Which one is it? I was pretty sure it was the first one but I wasn't going to argue with the guy.

lsd should let it spin a little. from what i know, they made them because people wanted posi, but having posi makes it "hard to turn" (and wears tires fast). if it slips a lot that means its not locking up, and should be serviced

There should be very limited slip (hence the name). On a hard corner, at the exit, getting hard on the throttle, inside wheel slips for a moment, then all (or at least, damn near all) power is delivered to the wheel with the traction.

I am gonna rebuild the LSD and tighten it up with oversize clutches.

Also Kentetsu, I have decided to do the 255/40/13 route with 10" Diamond steelies... no fancy Panasports here...straight to business only!!!

I still have not decided. Lately, I am actually considering going another year on the Sumitomos. The main reason for this is, I don't think I can shoot for the Nationals this year due to budget constraints, and another year on cheap tires will further hone my driving skills. I will probably save the race rubber for when I am ready to make a run at the Nationals.
