I just sat and watched all those LOL. That was pretty cool even though they didn't really feature any of the RX's

Wow; 12 cylinder Jag, 6 cylinder Buick Turbo, V8 Chevy, Brian Redman, David Hobbs.

You just took care of my racing fix as I was in maximum withdraw.

Thanks

Yeah, everything is going south IMO. Too many rules and guidelines how everything has to be the same. Did you hear about Honda leaving F1?

I'm curious if anyone know's why the RX-7's were always classed in GTO instead of GTU? GTO is discplacement over 3.0L and GTU is displacement under 3.0L. Even the 13B discplaces what's equaled to a 2.6L so I'm confused?

I'm fairly certain the FC IMSA cars were 3 rotors, so 2.0 x 2 = 4.0. Not sure though.

Way I heard it, the original RX7's were classed GTU... but after spankin that class shockingly hard, the displacement calculation rules were changed such that all six displacement volumes in the rotary had to be considered, making a 1.2 into a 3.6liter.

At least, that's the story I heard.

12a is a 2.2 liter, so its GTU

13b is 2.6 liter so its GTO

the mazda's ran both, but by 85, they had dominated GTU for a while and it was time to move up

the 13G 3 rotor engine also debuted around 84-85, although i dunno if anyone put it in a 1st gen

^^Either way that's UNDER 3.0L in displacement which would both be GTU based on the class rules.

Yeah I did a little more research and the early 1st gens were in GTU, but in all those videos they were GTO. No doubt people bitched about getting spanked like they did with the Audi Quattro's. Yeah the FC IMSA cars were either 3-Rotors or 4-Rotors, I'm not exactly positive. The sound clips I've heard of them from Sevenstock sounds like a 4-Rotor but I don't know alot of information on them though

Rotaries have always had a "multiplier" issued by the sanctioning body. This ranged from 1.5 to over 2.0 in some cases. It was used to classify rotary powered cars within the "Over/Under" type classes. It usually was enough to place them in the upper level class.

Yeah I figured as much. Just never made much sense. I still think Mazda's Lola LMP car should be 4-Rotor instead of the MZR-R but oh well

oh i got it, gtu is for engines under 2.5L so a 13b is just over at 2.6L

you could run a GTU car in GTO if you wanted, and off the top mandeville was the first one to do that.

the FC you see at sevenstock is a 4 rotor, its from 90-91, so there are plenty of other racing FC's with 2, 3 and 4 rotor engines.

Well from what I've read there were many changes in the displacement limit in the classes. It started with GTU being under 2.0L and GTO being over 2.0L. It changed a couple times until eventually it settled in 1985 I think to GTU being under 3.0L and GTO being over.
