I'm hopeful that someone knows what part this is and has one floating around to measure and photograph; it's the relatively small two bolt plate that attaches underneath the dash cover to retain the 79-80 center console panel. The part number is 8871-55-217, and it can be "seen" in the 79-80 Body A fiche as D-Code 55217 on page 3-H7. The fiche calls it the "Set Plate".
The part would normally cover the exposed metal rectangular area in this photo:
I knew something was missing there for the longest time, but just today I finally realized that it was that small panel. Since I'm working on the center console, I figured I should probably get my hands on one, or rather, make one.
If someone is able and willing to measure it, I would need all dimensions including fillets, bolt holes and countersinks, chamfers, etc. if present. Units in millimeters to at least the tenths place is preferred. A couple photos square to the part of at least the top and bottom surfaces would also be appreciated, in addition to photos showing any deformities due to age and creep that may affect the measured values. If that's too much trouble (I'm thinking it might be) I'd also be up for purchasing or borrowing one if anyone is willing to part with it.
@Benjamin4456 I have good news and bad news. I have one but it's cracked however it's not fragile so I can ship it to you or I can try taking all the measurements.
I noticed I didn't measure the stepdown lip on the curved underside (inside on the drawing) 2mm in by 1mm thickness.. To say it another way.. the step is 1mm down making the plate thickness go from 2mm to 1mm and the step's depth is 2mm...
screw hole is 9mm from the bottom edge or 10mm including the little tab and is also 10mm from the side edge.
The vertical supports on the inside above the screw holes is 21.5mm from the screwhole to bevel towards the plate including the bevel to the plate 23mm. The width of the supports are 2mm.
The vertical supports are 12mm from the side edges.
7mm spacing between the horizonal supports with the uppermost/topmost being 6.5mm from top edge.
Great, thank you @yeti for the sketches and photos, my apologies for not replying sooner. I got a model made up from your dimensions, and it appears close to your photos, but you've also got an impossible dimension (notch width + spacing vs overall width) in your sketch and I think it'll be easier if I have one in person to compare against for mock up and fitment purposes. I appreciate your effort in the sketches nonetheless, thank you. Banzai I'll shoot you a pm in just a bit here.
Thanks again for the replies, I didn't necessarily expect anyone to pop in this time. Also now that I've seen a photo of the part, I'd swear I have one somewhere, but I've checked a couple times now and can't find it, oh well.
I know it doesn't matter any longer but left to right 12 + 2 + 56 + 2 + 56+ 2+ 12 = 142. My handwriting leaves a lot to be desired. I'm in the office today so I don't have the part in my hand but the overall depth of the plate may or may not be 41mm. I should have included the tab's measurement but I don't recall. What I mean to say is it could be 41mm or could be 42mm total. However, you'll have a part in your hand soon enough and with what you already have you shouldn't have (hopefully) too many adjustments left to make.
Funny, I've never messed with or looked at that part on my SA in the 38 years I've owned it. Learning about these cars never ends. Sounds like you have replacements coming your way.

It is a rather well hidden part isn't it. I had always wondered why the top of the console seemed unsecured and then I noticed the two screw holes and missing panel. I've had that all apart so many times by now you'd think I'd have figured it out sooner. Anywho...
Thank you again Banzai for sending me the sample to measure. The initial model is now complete and we'll see where it goes from here; it should be a very simple and easy part to make. I'll post any further updates regarding its progress in my 3D printing thread.
