1984 gsl-se gauge cluster install

The old cluster was broke so it was easy to remove now trying to install the new one that isn’t broke and I am struggling to get it in and just don’t see how it goes in ? As the ears on top on each side are in the way and it is a very tight fit anything I find on this says it is a pain but I don’t see how it even can fit . I feel if I push too hard it will break . Any tips would be appreciated!

Maybe the top ears slide under the top edges first (while the bottom ears angle outward) then once it clears up top the bottom goes in? I stripped a whole car this summer and I don't remember how I took it out. If I have time I'll pull down the cluster from the shelf and try to see how it goes into the dash.

I tried that tried with no connectors on it . The problem is now the fuel gauge and temp gauge are intermittent so if it is that hard to get in and it quit working that is frustrating so I am going to have to see if I can see anything that needs cleaned up or all pins are good

thanks!

Slide the bottom in and angle the face down to get the top to go in. Before getting the top in, make the connections. Disconnect the speedo cable from the trans so it has more slack. Place an old cloth over the steering column and be VERY careful of the trip reset. It's all a pain in the ***. I used to take the seat out and make the connections by putting my head under the dash. I'm too old for that now. I've also done it by removing the outer front clear lens and shell, but I have ruined a couple to clusters doing that.

If someone knows of a place I can get an RX-7 speedo fixed let me know. I clocked the needle on a speedo and it doesn't spin correctly now.

thanks I was able to get it in a couple things I did have my plastic steering column cover off and the two bolts removed for the steering column to get a little more room.

my gas and temp worked now doesn’t and now tach doesn’t work any common areas to look at ? I was going to clean up the terminals to start with and look at grounding since it comes and goes . Any other things to look at ?

again thanks for the help!!

If you used the gas and temp from the "new" cluster, you might try replacing those with your old ones. Othor then that, just check the wiring connections.

I'm not sure that clip is available without buying the speedo cable. And if I'm remember correctly that cable is not available any longer new. I'll need to see if I have a spare cable and if the clip can be modeled and 3D printed.
