Does anyone know how many 1980 RX7 Anniversary Edition were produced?
From what I have found Mazda made 1,040 total anniversary editions across the all models - how many of those were RX7s?

 

i can account for one - in my driveway. with another locally on craigslist.

 

I tried to find out the VIN #'s of the '79 Limited Edition model agout 10 years ago, but MAZDA didn't want to spend the time looking through their archives.

Those numbers don't look correct. I know SAs are more scarce than FBs but only 1800 1980s made?
I kind of think its a lot higher. Maybe these are for just one state or something?

My feeble mind seems to remember numbers like 40 or 50,000 per year for the 1st gens. Maybe not
that high but a magnitude higher that whats been listed by KAL here.

 

To save face.. I did a search to see if I could find where I got these numbers - ends up it was this blog by "HKS FC3S" in December 2007, these were for USA only and were qualified what was missing. My bad for not looking up first.

Still have not figured out how many 1980 RX7 Anniversary Edition were produced.

Mazda celebrated its 10 years on the US market with special anniversary editions of the RX-7, as well as the 626 and GLC. Availability was to be limited to 8,000 cars nationwide (though exact mix among models was not specified), and all three models were outfitted in the same livery: a new color, Mazda Renaissance Red (for Mazda's "rebirth" in the US, thanks to the GLC, 626, and RX-7), pinstriping, and a medallion with the Roman numeral "X". The Anniversary RX-7 was based on the "GS sunroof" model and included specific upholstery on new "competition style" seats, a 4-speaker AM/EM sound system, inside remote controls for the dual outside rearview mirrors, and the otherwise optional aluminum alloy wheels.

 

the headliner seems to be stitched in, not on a cardboard style backing like my 83 gsl is. seats have faded out to a purple, but the new black color can still be seen under the fronts and under headrests.

 

Headliners on SA's are stretched vinyl cloth, no rigid backing.

 

I can account for another Anniversary Edition. Found this one sleeping in a garage for a decade or two.
