(STEREO) Another power antenna alternative (with pictures)

Since the Radio Shack power antenna is discontinued, the Metra and other Asian copies of it on eBay were recommended. I was a little concerned with buying a Chinese cheaply made antenna, and these ones also have a ugly chrome mast, that doesn't really work when all the trim on the car is black. I looked around and found a German designed antenna, with a anodized black stainless steel mast.

Manufactured by Hirschmann, the HIT AUTA 2040 seemed like a good fit. ( http://products.hirschmann.de//index...view=1,pid=774 )

I found one on eBay for $40. The guys website was http://www.woodyscustomshop.com http://www.bench-racing.com/html/ebay_store.html He called it an antenna for a Porsche, so you may want to confirm with him that its the 2040 before ordering.

Shape of bracket needed:

Ignore the rust, it was dealt with:

Hard to take a good picture of a thin pole.

That looks nice! I may need to get one, mine is just a long pole laying back, ready to poke eyes out.

Looks good, much better than the chrome look that the radio shack and stock ones have. I like it.

That looks awesome, was it hard to bend the bracket to the right shape?

Nice Find! Nice FB too! Does it install the same way as the Radio Shack one? Does it go up and down when you turn the radio on?

Thanks!

Yup. Three wires, GND, +12V constant and +12V signal. It also comes with a Y adapter for the +12V constant, so it just plugged inline with the hatch illumination light with no splicing.
