I'm predicting that this mod will become the most recommended "first mod" for new owners. The stock ignition system is so prone to failure/complications anyway, and this setup yields nice hp gains too. Question is, who's going to pick this up when Kent leaves the states? Will this be a limited edition type thing? There will be a high demand for these, of that I'm certain.

He could do the megasquirt thing.. Make x # of boards and have people build the rest themselves. It would free him up instead of having to put them together, he can just collect money on boards.
He guys. Just a quick response as I have to leave in a minute. Thanks for all the compliments. We got our move taken care of. Spent all day yesterday packing and driving (started at 6am got in town at 1:30am). We spent the majority of today finding a storage unit and unpacking the truck. The trip to San Fran is now going to be tomorrow. Becuase of all this stuff, I haven't been able to work on the boards. All are etched and drilled (I was thinking that I would go cross-eyed after all that drilling ) I will try to do some buildin g tomorrow night if we get back soon enough. Otherwise I can put in all day Thurday cranking these out.

Kent, if there is a demand for it (and I'm pretty sure there will be) would you be able to construct the systems while working in France? If not, then we'd better figure out who will do it while you're gone. Better yet, maybe you should let the demand grow so that when you do return you'll be able to make a couple dozen more then retire on the proceeds. I've spent some time considering what I would be willing to pay for this mod of yours, and I have to say that its quite a bit above the 25 dollar mark. Shazbot! I hope you don't read this until after you ship my new/improved unit!

Im hoping I can still pick one of these up as well (after reading this huge post!) but one question. Has anyone tested one of these on a 13b? I havent done any ignition mods yet so Im not that familiar with any differences there between 12a and 13b.

Hey guys. Tried to post this last night, but I was having internet issues. ratboy: Yes, will work on a 13B. That is what I have ('84 GSL-SE).

I am not sure how we could do this in the future. I could have the boards made professionally and then either I can assemble or we could do a kit. This would probably need to be a group buy thing as I would need to have a set quantity to have the boards made. The boards could be made smaller that way, but would increase the cost.

Many people have said that I could/should charge more. Some have even paid me over what I am asking. It is great that you guys are so generous. For me, it isn't about the money. I like electronics and RX-7s, so this is a win-win combination. I do make a profit on them, but nothing that I could ever retire on. I think low-budget mods are great, especially for most of us 1st gen guys. I want to make something that gives you a big bang for your buck. I hope you all enjoy this setup.
BTW: Couldn't think of anything I would rather do in my last days in the States than make a bunch of 1st gens faster.

It looks like I will have atleast 1 circuit left, so RotaryRocket is in if he wants one. RX Seven and ratboy: I think that I can't still get you guys one. I have to ask some of the guys if they still wanted one. I listed people that were even mildly interested just in case. If these guys don't want/need one right now, I should have a couple more circuits available. I'll let you guys know.

I guess I should have made more boards. I estrimated the number to build based on the number of people interested at that time and the amount of time I have. There maybe some available, I will have to wait and see. I'll get the majority of these shipped out and then we can figure out if there will be any leftover.
For future work, I think the best route would be to have the boards made professionally. This would save me a lot of time. The software I used for the design if through a company here in Oregon. You can design boards with this software and send them the file. Within about 3 days, they send you professional quality boards. If we go this route, we would have to do a group buy thing. We would need to get like 20 or 30 boards ordered to get the price reasonable. Maybe a deposit to cover the cost of atleast the board itself would need to be incorporated. I could then assemble, do a kit, or do MS style (you buy the components separatly). The second two options would take the least amount of time upfront on my part. The problem is with support and quality assurance. You have to worry about people putting things in wrong and such causing it not to work or damaging components. I think the technical assistance may become more time involved than just building and testing them myself. The price would likely be higher than it is now, unless I sold just the board without any components. I could assemble in France, the problem is customs, duty, shipping, etc. This stuff could raise the cost considerably. We will figure something out.

I would be willing to do some building/testing, for a small fee of course.. My car has one of the first setups, so I can add a connector for quick removal of the 'black box'. If you're interested, lemme know.
BTW, *error, over on the MS forum and the MS section here, recently completed a daughterboard for MSnS-E, so you might hit him up on the company he used. It looks like a good quality piece from what I can see in the pics.
