(IGNITION) Transistor trick for 2GCDFIS.
I'd like to get one of these boards or even prebuilt ones, are there any left? I'll be happy to chip in... I'm already running the 2ndgen coil, so this sounds like a great upgrade, thanks guys for putting this together...

I'll see if I can get all the parts locally. I'll figure out something on the ignitor plug. I can try nto hit a wrecking yard and grab a couple for now.
I got these 4 boards etched. They look pretty good. I'll post some pics later. I found the the box that we'll need to use will be bigger than those I used before. The extra space is needed for the auto switching circuit. Actually the old box is big enough physically, but they put posts on the inside to screw on the lid. These posts make the 3" long box only hold a board 2.25". RadioShack does sell a box that is 4"x2"X1" (same as the old box, just 1" longer). I think this will be the one we'll have to use.

Looks nice Kent. I switched back to variable p/w last night while cruising around town, and it sure does make a difference in the low rpm power/torque. I miss that high rpm surge though. Wonder if I should have mounted the box inside so I could flip it back and forth whenever I feel like it.
Hopefully you'll be able to get enough of these circuits together before you leave. Also, I wonder if there's anybody out there skilled enough to pick up the torch until you return.

Kentetsu: You could mount in the car. I don't think the ignitor wires would reach, though, so you would have to extend them. I haven't had a chance to really check out the fixed PW mode. If it is that noticable, the new circuit should be really nice with the auto switching and all.

I could then send them to someone I trust and then they could distribute them while I am gone. I will probably be back to visit next June and could crank out another batch then as well.

There are a couple spots on these boards that I will have to clean up by hand. The toner bonded really well and did a very good job protecting the areas that weren't supposed to be etched. I now know that I don't really have to worry about over etching with this process.

Thanks for the offer. Did you want to get one of these blank boards? Or did you want to get an assembled unit?
Any help tracking down those ignitor connectors would be helpful. I have tried a bunch of places, but can't seem to find them.

Thata a positive on the board and if you want to contact CAG8or on the mazspeed forum about working with me... go for it I helped to get the A-pillar dual guage pod moving and helped him get rid of his extras.

You guys decided to use the auto switching idea afterall eh? Well, I officially feel like I contributed something to the project now! The hard part might be trying to figure out the exact right RPM to switch at. Maybe use an adjustable resistor or something to "tune" the RPM at which it switches for each individual car?

T.J.: Yep, we used your idea. Implementing it actually tuned out to be simple. Instead of using a microswitch or some sort of RPM switch, this design with switch based on whatever mode gives the longest PW (coil charging time). This way the variable mode gets used in the low end and whenever the variable mode drops below 2ms, the fixed pulse mode then will kick in. This way there is no adjusting. The outputs are still there for the fixed PW and the variable PW modes as well in case someone likes a single mode better.

i did the mod tonite just the simple 1 and wow.com the butt dyno is right my idle got better and man it pulls all the way threw the rpms. thanks gsl-se addict for thinking this up and maybe there is more in the trialing i hope
Cool. Keep us up-to-date on how you like it. Also check the timing. It was found that this setup tends to retard the timing a bit. Once you reset it, you may have even more get up and go.

Im just glad that you guys are doing something that helps out our cars again. Good technical stuff in the forums again is nice. If I run a 12A in my car again, Im definatly going with this setup vs the DLIDFIS I had last time. I liked that a lot, maybe Ill love this, it sounds like everyone else does!~T.J.
