I'm building an IT7 car right now. How do you guys get the sound deadening out of the car. I'm chipping it away with a chisel right now. I put dry Ice on it but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Is there a better way?

I sure hope there is. I just started to chip it and it is freaking hard. I decided that I can live with it in there since it's just going to scratch the hell out of the metal if I keep doing what I've been doing. Good luck on your project.

 

I just put an air chisel on it. It cut through that **** like butter. I highly recomend it. It took us maybe an hour and a half to do it.

I scratched the metal too but mako will paint the inside of your car for cheap. Just get a zip wheel and scuff the inside up real good and they will shoot it.

My car is completely striped to nothing but bare chasis and suspension. I'm going to clean it up and spot sand the engine bay and inside. Mako is going to charge me $500 to shoot the engine bay, inside the car and the out side. It's a race car so I don't need it perfect. we did this on our other race car and it looks great.
My car is going in the paint booth as soon as the role cage is welded in.

I peeled my carpets back awhile ago (spilt coffee) and to my surprise there was no sound deadining...maybe SA's didn't come with them? Has anyone stripped all the carpet and replaced it with light guage sheet metal. I was thinking about this awhile back, might look good either bolted or pot-rivited down. Any thoughts on this? Good luck with the IT7 project.

 

my 79 and 80 did not have any sound deading stuff either.. just insulation for the carpet..

rivited or bolted sheetmetal could look cool for race purposes, but i am a big fan of carpet for street use

My '80 had two kids of sound deadening - the wool-like stuff under the carpeting, and the adhesive (tar) stuff stuck to the metal, apparently before the car was painted.

 

Because it is about my first gen but there are few, if any, full race prepared car owners in this forum. There are several race car owners that go in the rotary performance section so I figured I had a better chance of getting my question answered by posting in both sections.
At the time I posted it I was needing an answer ASAP. But, as you can see, I answered my own question.
