American Lemans Series

What is going on at the ALMS series??? I was watching the race last night and realized that the field was small. I looked atthe results this morning and it is a joke! P1 had 4 entires (2 teams of 2 cars) P2 was huge at 8 ( 4 teams) GT1 only had the 2 Corvettes and GT2 had 10. When those cars come to Mosport they will get so spread out it will be like watching a lapping day!

More cars then last year actually. And P1 is three teams... P2 will have another pair of Porsche Spyders joining shortly & BK has a second chassis... GT2 will receieve another entry shortly also.

I must have miscounted on the results or something but I thought there were the Audi's (2) and Dyson (2) in P1. I cant believe Chevrolet would spend the money to run 2 cars by themselves in GT1, I dont see where the marketability is with that.

Actually, there are 2 Audi's in P1 and the Jon Field Team as well as the Willman team. The full results are attached.

What was really interesting was listening to the head of GM motorsport, on Wind Tunnel, defend the race series GM is involved in and the value each series has to the company.

NASCAR is basically marketing. He all but admitted that it does nothing to assist product development or improve vehicle image. He did say that it promoted fan brand loyalty. Over 50% of NASCAR GM fans would buy another GM car because of their involvement. This was substantially higher than the general population. NASCAR offered a very good direct car sales return versus money spent.

He was pointedly asked by Dave Despain about GM's involvement in the ALMS with the Corvette team and the value to GM with no regular competition. He said that it was the only series that GM was involved in that still had direct technology transfer to the production car. He said that it was primarily aero and engine development ( I assume hardparts), but that it was also a very cost effective method of brand image reinforcement.

What was interesting is that he made no mention of the Grand Am efforts, Koni Efforts or WC efforts. I don't know what that means, but I can always speculate....

Talking On a Side Note

Does anybody but me think that the new Porsche GT3R's look monstrously mean. Just a thought.

I think the new Porsches do look alot more aggressive than the last years. I think the lights have alot to do with it as well as modified bumpers when compared to last year.

I can't wait to see if they sound anything like they did last year, damn they are loud!
