i am having strange prob with idel ever since i put everything back together. i was driving and then i noticed idle yestrday staying at 1-2 grand???WTF!!! i am not sure what the cause is its not vacume related because boost is perfect i tried messing around with the idle adjustment thing on the left of the throttle and it just raises rpm it doesnt lower? the throttle lift arm goes down when i pull cable but when i let off it doesnt lift back up all the way? to shut where screw on on the top throttle for idle adjustment is set what is goin on the only way i can get the idle to idle at 850 rpm which is normal is by inserting a flat tip into the throttle control arm that holds the cable and lift it up to hit the idle adjust screw at that point stays idling at 850 when i hit the gas it will rev up but then dropp back to 1500 rpm after i let off gas............i repeat step and same result? what am i doing wrong is there another idle screw adjustment i am missing i only see the one at the top to the left of throttle body is that one only seems to open throttle is there another one to close it??????? Help me

my guess is a leaky intake manifold gasket.

 

heres probably your problem. I was having the same problem and it turned out to be the throttle body. On the throttle body theres a ball bearing in wax. I believe its part of the accelerated startup. When the car is cold the bearing is stuck in its position because the wax is hard and cold. Once warm the wax liquifies and the bearing moves letting the engine run at the lower RPM. Since this portion of the throttle body uses the engines coolant(God i cant think of the part name) to tell its temperature, after years the coolant can corrode the bearings housing and stuff. Same thing happened to me. Check the back of the throlle body were theres a second throttle cable coil or something that looks like the front one. Hit a few times and open and close it to see if you can break it loose.

 

What exactly did you take apart? You said you put 'it' back together right? How do you know that you are not dealing with a vac leak somewhere? It could be that you didn't connect a hose right or a check valve is misconnected or leaking.

The wax thermo rod is another possibility too.

 

Check your throttle screw, on both primary and seconday valve. That is not for adjusting idle, that adjusts the closing-throttle voltage. If you want to change idle, use the screw to the lower right of your throttle body.

 

i had very similar problem and it was the intake manifold gasket. my boost was ok and only a bit of vacuum loss noticed on the gauge, but idle at 1500. original gasket is paper, the replacement is layered steel.

 

...cant be vac lines they are all secure with zip ties triple checked them and 1 rechecked them 4th time for the hell of it and also no kinks in hoses all check valves are brand new and pointing right way........also all gaskets i took off have been replaced and secured tightly this prob didnt occur intill about 1 and 1/2 weeks after vac hose job.......so this isnt related to that or else apparent from get go???..........so where are the idle screws at???? on the bottom do i have to rmove intake penulum or anything?

 

ok coming in from drivers side lookin in the engine where do i look for the idle adjustment screw...

 

make sure the throttle line isn't off the pulley wheel thing, should be in the groove of the pulley. If it's not, it could raise the idle by pulling the cable.

try reseting the computer, if you made engine changes. disconect negative battery cable for a min, then reconnect.

 

I had the same problem and it was the throttle cable was too tight.. try adjusting it from where the two rubber spacers are.
