S5 Turbo II Aero Package... Front clip etc Q's

What consists of the S5 Turbo II aero package? The front clip... and arent the side skirts a bit wider (from top to bottom)?

How much do these usually go for in decent condition? I know alot of people end up scraping them up, aren't they made of plastic? If I can find one in good shape, can I make a fiberglass mold of it and prime/paint it the body color?

Is the rear bumper different? The only TII ive seen that has the aero package is OPEC's TII (the white one)... Everything but the hood, what is different from a S5 GTU? (89)

Also: If OPEC's car is a TII, why does it say GT-X? Is this something that was non-US?

Thanks,

Jonathan

Here's a question:

Does the s5 spoiler actually do anything beneficial for the car, or is it more cosmetic. I remember some advertisement about increased downforce, but then I remember Ted or someone else saying that the s5 spoiler actually increases the cd over the s4 sport spoiler.

No, the spoiler does decrease the drag coefficient a little, but not as much as the sport spoiler did. Rear bumper on a TII is no different than on any other s4 or s5. The GT-X model RX-7 was sort of like our GTU, a base model, except theirs was turbo.

So how much would one run? Anybody got any for sale? Im not looking to buy immediately, but would like the average price they go for, as well as the side skirts and rear bumper (I think they're diff from a S5 GTU)

That looks absurd with the turbo badge off a Porsche. Front clip isn't bodywork it's terminology to describe any structural members off the frame (on older cars) or monocoque (newer).

Being a buddy of Jay's (Opec, the owner of the white car) I can answer a few questions...

First off, the nose and rear bumper are standard '89-91 parts. The non-turbos had a simple black rub strip at the bottom of the nose, and the turbos had the lip spoiler. The lip spoilers are IMPOSSIBLE to find used - most of the '89-91 turbos I've seen were missing the lip spoiler!

The side skirts are the next part - it just makes the side of the car a little fatter, and flows really well with the lip spoiler. The side skirts are in two parts, and will bolt on an NA quite easily (one of the local guys did just that). Finding them used is tricky, as they only came on the '89-91 TII's.

The "Turbo" badge on Jay's car is actually straight from Japan - yes, it is a copy of a Porsche badge. It's a real popular mod in Japan - I've seen it on a number of FC's. It really goes well on Jay's car, and it's painted the same silver as the RX-7 logo.

The "GT-X" stickers on the fenders are also original Japan parts. I bought them AGES ago as a Christmas gift to Dan (owner of the black car in the picture) for his old white '90 Turbo. He never put them on the car, and the car died/parted out/etc., and Jay wound up with them. Anyhow, GT-X is a trim level in Japan, like GXL or GTU here. Again, goes with the Japan-style look Jay's going for.

Thank you all very much, a great help.
I realised that it probably would be a pain in the *** to find them used, and in good condition.

Seeing that picture that IceMark posted, with prices.... who sells them? Mazda OEM? There has to be a place that sells them cheaper than OEM right? Is it MazdaSpeed or MazdaTrix that sells alot of the OEM parts cheap

Again, thanks very much for the help,
Jonathan.

Mazdaformance.com (see the above banner) can work really good prices on stock parts. They'll still be pricey, however. The good thing is the parts come pre-painted and ready to install.
