What will cause an 89 to go into limp home?

On my way to work this morning my 89 vert went into limp home. Check engine light came on and it lost power. Shutting the car off and restarting the light would go out and the car would run fine until about the middle of second gear. Then, the check engine light will come back on and it will loose power again.

I checked the obvious things like oil, coolant, ignition.
The only thing I could see of concern is the PO had spliced like 3 wires together for the O2 sensor. I'm wondering if I have an open circut from the O2s will it go into limp home?

I don't imagine that there are too manythings that will put this car in limp home. Anyone know what faults will cause this?

Thanks,
Mike

most likely the OMP, if u drove around like that for a while, you could have really screwed your car. check the codes; http://www.rx7world.com/89-91_info.htm heres a guide that tells you how to do this.

Well it's code 27 for OMP. Is there a way to keep the car from going into limp home? I can use premix to get the car home.

Thanks,
Mike

To my knowledge there is no way to disable that. If there was a lot of s5 guys would be premixing.

there is no way to bypass it... I would premix now to not cause damage. but you'll have to drive in limp mode untill you fix it.
