Question O2. Air, Fuel gauge not working.

Ok i bought an 02 gauge from ramchargers the other day. Hooked it up just like it said black to neg. red to pos. And the purple one to the o2 wire after the connecter. (or between the connecter and the comp.) And what did i get nothing. Well the only thing i can get off the gauge is when i go to start it the led's will light up while i crank it then they go out after it starts. Can somebody please help me with this problem. Thanks

how long did you run it the gauge has to wait until the o2 sensor "warms up" then it reads or lights up atleast

also, where did you tap the wire to? if you tap it near the ecu, make sure you are tapping the correct wire.

jeremy, did you check your connections to make sure you are getting voltage to the gauge? like where are you getting your hot (+) lead from? and is your ground grounded securely?

Could be a dead O2 sensor?

You may want to wire It here, from the ECU. Just my preference, a opposed to the O2 Sensor directly.

Huh?! I've posted answers to A/F gauge questions dozens of times, explaining where to hook them up (ECU), and where not to (O2 sensor) and why. So have many other people. Did you try searching?

Jeremy, when you say you hooked it up inside, you mean at the ECU? Check all three connetions to make sure they're in the right place. First check you have 12V at the power wire with a DMM. If you've tapped into a wire for a ground, check there's continuity between the wire and the chassis. Finally make sure you've tapped into the correct signal wire. Stick one of your DMM's probes into the ECU plug at the wire you've tapped and ground the other probe. Go for a drive and once it's warmed up you should see the reading shooting back and forth between 0V and 1V as you accelerate and decelerate. If it doesn't, either you're on the wrong wire, your O2 sensor is dead, or its wiring is damaged.

This recent thread has some more good info.

They are very easy to hook up, just follow instructions given in the many threads on the subject.

purple=o2 wire at ECU
black=ground
white=accessory power(when the key is turned on)
