Just prepared my ported lower intake, How much loss with Sleeves?

I have a ported intake and made a working VDI system with Pineapple racing sleeves. I wanted a working system for low end but realized Daaam that huge *** rod and then that Sleeve rod that holds the other rod look really restrictive for top end. I was wondering how much loss from the turbulence will this hurt me up top on an engine thats making 185hp as oposed to gluing the sleeves in??? To let everyone know im all about racing and 8k plus rpms but if this wasnt going to be noticible than I wasnt going to worry about it. I would just like to have some 3k and under power no what I mean jelly bean?

Just keep 'em working, unless you can launch at 5k RPMs and never have it go lower than 4k .

N/A;s need all the torque then can get. The rods won't make TAHT much difference. You can remove your secondary throttle plates and rod to make up for the difference.

They start to carbonize as soon as they stop moving .

What? I dont go lower than 5k when launching. that was my point. I need all the top end for racing and I also never really go below 5k when doing it. So thats what brought me to how much horsepower it will take off. If you have ever seen them you can tell that thiers huge restricion with that crosspatter in the runners.

Heres my mods

VDI wired open. (soon to be working) (dont disable this everyone) I was stupid at the time

Pineaple sleeves working 6th ports (mabey)

Agressively ported intake manifolds matched to engine ports. (primaires are larger on engine side for torque when air pushes back out.)

TB mod and coolant hose redirected.

Magnacores 10mm and Black magic E fan

RP underpulleys ALternator and Crank

Yokos

Removed pass seat. Carpet with new light carpet , bumper weights, Aluminum hood, Streight pip exaust, AC, PS, cruis control windshield wiper fluid exc. Full interior. removed 200 lbs est 2650lb

Bonez race pipe and Cat-back (Need headers for that extra 5hp top end) stock manifold feels restrictive at 7500 rpms.

With some more weight mods , S-AFC and drag radials mabey 4.3 gears im hoping to be in the 14.3-14.6 range 1/4 mile.

So I take it this is not your daily driver? Then go ahead and do that if you're not gonna ever go below 5k.

YES I KNOW WHAT HTE MOTHER ****** 6-PORT RODS ARE. I did the damn write up on porting the intakes.

Oh and a slow POS N/A will never break outta 16's

Have you ever driven a properly modded FC without 6 port sleeves? It really sounds like you havent. You have no idea what youre talking about.

I removed my sleeves, and glued in a shaped piece of nylon to smooth out the transition from the runner to the intake port. I removed the control rod, etc, and ground down the bumps in the intake manifold around them. The holes the actuator rods passed through were JB Welded, and ground to smooth on the inside.

On top of that, I also have my VDI wired to high(no airpump).

My car has PLENTY of bottom end My car is more than happy to drive around town at 2000 rpm. It never feels like its lagging, you just feel the power build as teh rpm's climb. My car is more drivable around town that my moms 94 Saturn SL2(1.9L DOHC in a 2400 lb car)

I really doubt that you will regret it if you do it right. Remove the actuator rods, fill the passage the rods pass through, grind the bump out. Pull the pin out of the 6 port sleeves, grind the edges of the sleeve, and install it with some high temp adhesive.

Well, being as our cars have more torque than a Saturn at every RPM that's no surprise.

Yeah, I haven't ever driven a car w/wired ports but I know mine are working perfectly and I love being in 4th gear @ 2200 RPMs and then just giving it 1/2 throttle and see 60mph in no time

Meh, I just guess that Mazda actually added like maybe 20 ft-lbs with that system.

Well I have been driving without my sleeves for a long time and figure thats were most my top end came to play for I havnt done much else at the time (a long time ago)

Is JB Weld a high temp adhesive??? I need to glue these things in right because its going to be imposible to clean these ports out for they are to far in and I dont want to get dirt inside the engine.

Uuuu. Dre 2000 what do you mean without the rods its undrivable , unstreetable LOLOL. Still has plenty enoughf down low to beat any economy car. So are they sopose to just give up making hondas?

Dont give false information dre.

Now, if i had it to do over again, i would have kept the working 6 port systems. It was very noticable to me. But if its a race car...i'd pull em. CJ

Dre, my point was that is didnt affect drivability like you described. Im sure I woul have more bottom end with my ports operational, but Im perfectly happy with them how thay are. And I do drive my nearly stock vert enough to know how the engien is supposed to act. My vert has modded 6 port sleeves(just like Pineapple, but I made them), and a race pipe. Thats it for mods. And you know what? My coupe still drives better, and has TONS more power EVERYWHERE, even at 2K rpm. I know my vert weighs more, but how much bottom end do you think I would really gain with working 6 ports? My coupe still drives better at low rpm's than my vert, and even if I could, I wouldn't put the 6 port system back on.

i took out my sleeves and have no driveability problems, it builds as you rev up and in the top end i think it is worth it

Is that a fair comparison?

I mean your coupe has true duals, ported manifold, and probably something else. Your vert is heavier, only has a racepipe, and probably a couple of problems........

Anyway, I would love to see the HP output on your coupe

Yes its fair because mods arnt really sopose to give low end power anyways. But I can be wrong.

My point was that nearly all of my mods shift the powerband upwards, and "supposedly" kill my bottom end. But thats not how it is. My coupe may be lighter than the vert, and Im sure the vert would put more power down in the botom end on a dyno, but my coupe still has better acceleration and drivability at around town rpm's than the vert, with working 6 port system, AND pineapple sleeves.

Im going to the track real soon. I got a LSD from an 88 GXL in my car, and ordered a race pressure plate, rear poly bushings, and a SS clutch hose. My current clutch is nearly new, and I had problems with it slipping at the track with bald shitty tires and an open diff. Im not going to risk destroying the plate for one launch with my sticky tires and LSD.
