Question Purple/Blue HID in CA - anyone been pulled over by a cop?

I'm looking into a HID kit (14000k, blue/purple color) for my fd.

I'm worried about being pulled over for having such color by a cop.
Are there anyone who is running the 14000k HID ?

any thoughts or comment regards to this issue?

Purple is legal and blue is not but if it's only a slight tint they won't hasle you. If your lights actually look blue from a distance then you will eventually get pulled over. Red and yellow are also illegal headlight colors.

It doesn't have to be 14000k or be exactly in purle color, I'm just looking for HID that has the same color/lighting as the Audi HID lights.

i think the cutoff is more important than the color. if you're beaming everyone on the road, you're gonna get pulled over.

The color is derived from the cutoff... it's a prismatic effect (Prisim Splits Light) where at certain angles the light changes color... hence when those cars go over bumps it changes slightly...

What most (aftermarket) HID resellers do is actually tint the bulb housing, which can reduce the life of the bulb...

An electric Arc by defnition is blue as well hence the blue-ish tint from the beam, while with tungsten you're burning a fillament, and it is usually a lot more Ornage / Yellow. But Again if you tint the bulbs anything is possible...

On to the getting pulled over... I had Dual LED parking lights with one bulb blue and one white, to make it appear more blue than a dual white setup, and the cop pulled me over, asked me if I planned returning to this neighborhood, I explained I lived around there, and he suggested I change the bulbs before he sees me again, or I'd get a big fat ticket for illegal equipment... Okie Dokie Officer... will do.... changed them and had no more issues...

This was with the Rotary Extreme HID kit on the car and turned on. so he obviously didn't have issues with that, then again those are not tinted bulbs... They're stock Hella's.

cuttoff is the key point as mentioned. plenty of H4 conversions out there with blues in them but not blinding everyone. now with the xenons they can be eye burning bright so without a good cutoff you will blind people and get pulled over a lot quicker.

14000k and you'll regret it. If you've seen these in person the lighting is horrible, and its probably more color than your looking for. Go with 4300k or something close to that and put them in projectors for the look your going for.

I use to work at a lexus dealership and the shop formen Is one of the sheriffs of Hayward, CA. The only legal car that has HIDs is a car that came stock with them. Meaning if you put HIDs on your car its illegal but just like your front license plate most pplz dont have it and its illegal and you ussually dont get pulled over because of it. YOu get pulled over because of speeding or something like that and then they add to the fact you have no license plate... HIDs.

I'm now thinking of getting 8000k. How do you like your 10000k HID?

Having no front license plate isn't illegal if your car didn't come with one. If you remove your front license plate now that is illegal. I checked this on the DMV website.

doesn't matter. the cop will give you a ticket anyway.

what are you gonna do--take 2 days off work to show up in court twice to get it taken care of?

Retrofit FTW.

I never got hassled because my headlight output looked exactly like a Lexus, Acura, BMW, etc.
