Yes, so far it seems only a few have my back, I suspect not too many rotor heads even know this happening in the SS 13 thread.
All they want to know is the date...while the new guys are getting all juiced up.
Sevenstock is the Happiest Place on Earth...don't let the camel's nose under the tent.
We take Sevenstock for granted...it's free, an army of volunteers work like crazy so WE can enjoy walking around without any effort.
Only they know how much Mazda has really added to keep this alive as it now is.
We haven't had a new RX7 in 15 years, and only 15,000 were imported.
Remember the "Save the Seven" campaign?
The RX8 is now going away.
The 16X is in doubt.
This is very fragile people.
The swappers don't care, they'e not worried about getting rotary engine parts to rebuild and race wankels.
If Mazda thinks we're okay with V6s and I4s then that's what we'll get.
Do you know this month 300 Miatas are having an event at Mazda R&D, just like we did so long ago?
I miss the R&D Center, when they brought out the 787B.
Maybe they can do what Chevrolet did to its 4 ROTOR Corvette and put in a V8...they could call it the 427B.
The truth is that RX7, all gens, are the smartest platform for ANY conversion. There's only going to be more and more swaps into Mazdas.
It is not going to look good when 20, 25, or 30 V8 guys are there beaming all over there open hoods. That will be very soon believe me.
They are conversions, "not that there's anything wrong with that"...but they are not coming back to RE power...or we're never hooked to begin with.
I've been getting some ugly PMs too, just so you know...I'll be copying and pasting them right here.

Again, when Bern says the policy is actually open hoods for conversions I'll stop pissin' in your Wheaties.
This is our "Happiest Place on Earth"
It's Rotaryland.
So far, none of the organizers have stepped up to tell the "unspoken truth".
I welcome The RX7 Club or Mazda officials to tell me to stop asking what the policy is, or rather what it's gonna be.
No, now more than ever, I don't want to see your V8s with open hoods...or piston cars, or GTRs, or S2000s or Porsches
Here's a link to the 20-30 major car meets EVERY WEEKEND in SoCal.
These are all non rotary shows...they don't even know Sevenstock exists.
http://www.socalcarculture.com/events.html
Take it there, open your hood and put a sign card up detailing your hard work...I'm okay with that.
I'm 59, an old guy. I've been doing swaps since the early 1960s
Corvair V8s, big block mopars into '64 Dodge Darts, Corvairs into buggies Chevys into 240Zs, hot rods, long before many of you were swinging.
I've been involved in putting rotaries in just about everything, Bugeyes, Bajas, 914s, 911s, TR7s, Jensen Healys, Lotus 7s, Europas, Beck Spyders, kitcars, BMW 320i and even Vegas, Opel GT, all great fun.
I've made a living in the auto industry and racing and hi perf since Vietnam...I only take so much advice from wannabes. This is relaxed.
Wow...you put a V8 in a RX7, the easiest swap on earth.
Engine swaps have their own shows.
And I know that the best platform for any swap is any gen RX7...it's a no brainer.
You can go to the same parking lot as SS13 51 Saturdays a year, there are 500 cars (maybe 2 Mazdas) from exotics, to hot rods, to vintage racers and muscle cars AND CONVERSIONS.
But be warned they won't be impressed, you have to show up in a street legal 917 Porsche to get a rise.

Yea, I read none of that.
See you all at the meet! I can't wait! I'm getting my car painted innocent blue mica with a feed kit from shine as we speak. Hopefully I can get a nice set of wheels before the event.
Bern, I saw somewhere that this is a BBQ as well. Is it a a hosted BBQ or like a potluck? I'd like to know if we can bring some food or not for the BBQ. Also, what time should we arrive and is there any sort of pre-meet to get in or just 1st come type deal?
Thanks!

There's usually a good amount of space to get your car in there.. The few years I've actually taken my car, I went to line up in the parking lot around 8am or so. Just remember, once it's in there, you can't move it out till later in the afternoon.

Wow this guy needs to quit chugging red bulls and accept reality.... LS owners aren't going there to talk smack. I wouldn't mind owning a rotary car if I knew how to work on one. We make different decisions in life, but all are enthusiasts. From a Honda AZ600 to Koenigsegg CCXR.. I love. This event has "seven" in it, and even if it didn't it is clearly an RX7 event. Quit making up reasons why these cars shouldn't be allowed. No one cares but you. Have your own event.
Besides... guess what I see on the back of my LS1 RX7? .... An RX7 badge. Guess what? I have a Mazda RX7 powered by LS1. I have not officially renamed the car therefore it is still an RX7, just with a different drivetrain. It says Mazda RX7 in my title as well. If you pull the VIN number it will also tell you the car is called Mazda RX7.
Quit getting so technical about it, cool down, have a drink. You are nerding out too much about this.
I bet if you drove a LS1 powered RX7 to Best Motoring or let Best Motoring (Tsuchiya) drive one of those for the US edition shows they would be very fond of it. Just like they were amazed with other American tuners of the Japanese cars.
Speaking of that (you can take it as a grain of salt of you'd like), a guy I know who works for Endless now has been in Japan and best rotary shops around including Re_Amemiya. They were interested hearing him tell about the swaps and didn't say a bad word about it.....
I've gotten along with all rotary owners in the past, always exchanging interesting conversations in our cars and take each other for a ride. Do you behave like this in person as well?

First off, I have to say I am a huge fan and myself a builder of custom cars, trucks, bikes, boats, etc. whether they are piston, rotary, 2 stroke, diesel, rocket powered or what have you. I have owned a ton of different cars, boats and bikes, and have customized them all to my liking, some much more than others, and I appreciate anyone who has the skill and drive to build something themselves as I know the time $ and effort that goes into it... I am a speed lover which is one of the reasons I love the rotary and the Rx7 so much.. However, I'm going to have to agree with RB Rx7, in that I believe that no piston powered cars should be allowed in the show area... I don't have a problem with piston engine swapped Rx7s or other swapped cars. They usually are fun to drive and when done right they have viable benefits(especially the LSX swap) as well as some drawbacks, however, remember this event is supposed to be honoring the Rotary Engine/Community...To showcase V8 or other piston swapped Rx's goes against what this event is supposed to be about..
This isnt a Car Show, Custom Car Showcase or some Hot Import Nights special... this is a Rotary Event and we should only be showcasing rotary powered vehicles.. I remember hearing one of the main reasons Mazda was going to stop holding Seven Stock was because they didn't believe there was enough interest in or support for the Rotary engine, and showcasing piston powered cars at Mazda's Annual Rotary Event is not the way to show them otherwise... I want the new 16X to be mass-produced and I want the rotary engine to be further developed/refined and I want Mazda to build another Rx7, so I think we need to be showing how strong our passion and devotion is to the rotary, which SevenStock has been allowing rotary fans to do in this public venue, not showcasing piston swapped cars(which have nothing to do with this rotary event anyway)... I agree we should keep this one day of the year, that Mazda and all the awesome vendors at the show have been gracious enough to devote their time and $ to, strictly Rotary.. For me, it has nothing to do with keep to your own kind, that I hate pistons powered 7s or any of that jazz, I love building things and making them faster/better by any means, but this is a Rotary event, so showing off your piston engine RX in the showcase not only doesn't make sense it serves no purpose other than to undermine the event... but that's my 2 cents..
David

This thing is now so big that the event has a food vendor... GRILLS AND ALCOHOL & DRUGS ARE NOT PERMITTED AT THE EVENT.. this is a fire and insurance issues for us now; the reality of sponsoring a big public event with a corporate sponsor and city permits!
To get in... it's a first come first serve deal... the first peeps get there before the sun comes up at around 5AM. All are lined up in a pre-stage area.

i have to agree with rb7 and 1faastfd3s.....
since this is a once a year rotary event, it should only be a rotary engine celebration day.
even if its on a corolla, colt, or 510.
if a rotary is in one of these cars, I'm ok with.....as long as it has a rotary engine.
i have nothing bad about a v8 swap in an rx7, they are great.
just not for this once a yr event.

DD...You should "get it" more than anybody. You have a perfectly restored and slightly improved '80 RX7.
This is what Sevenstock is all about. Yours is actually Seven"stock"
It's not Chevystock or Hemistock (indyguy)
What if you were a Madza judge, do you think they would say "nice V8 swap"?
I haven't met one conversion guy that is loyal to rotary power...therefore don't bother the rest of us.
The first year I went to the smaller R&D center I worked about 2 weeks on final detailing, like many of us, including you. Getting there a little late I just missed getting "inside".
Of course one of the first guys I talked to was the guy with the white convertible...very nice, then he popped the hood to show me his "sweet V8".
As I said...park you car but don't make me "envy" your cool swap.

You'd like that?..."Mr. Gone to the Darkside"
You can stay on the darkside, you left...your cars don't belong at an all rotary event.
Pretty simple
Maybe you could buy a clear hood...that would be clever.
I'll give it a rest when they put a piston engine in the RX7s...you may get your wish.

"They" already did! By the way your spewing crap out of your mouth you'd have thought that Mazda invented the rotary engine (they didn't) or they were the first to put it in a motor vehicle (they weren't). People buy these cars for a number of reasons and what they do with them, whether its upgrading the suspension, changing out the interior, modifying exterior, or upgrading/swapping the engine is entirely up to them.
I could understand your point of view, if this was a concourse type of event, where authenticity was being judged (it's not, if it was my guess is that 98% of the cars showing up would not be allowed in.)
Yes, this event is called "SevenStock". Bern has already made it very clear that is is first and foremost a Mazda event and that those of us who plan on attending the event be respectful of that fact. Everyone that I have discussed this with that plan on attending fully understand this fact and plan on honoring it.
I plan on attending to have a good time, meet people that I've known on the club of years, and talk about cars.
You seem to be pretty hung up on the "hood open or hood closed" thing for those of us that don't meet your criteria for what should power an RX7. Too bad, deal with it, and move on.

Maybe you can win the best non rotary award? Uh... they don't have that catagory.
I'm still waiting for Bern to belly up on this...then I'll play nice.
BTW, I got your silver bullet right here: My '67 Coupe with an L88 marine motor, it might even keep up on the autocross. OK, technically it's still in the family...but I have a couple better cars these days.

Here is one of my white cars, I don't see any V8s in this picture.
Yes I'm a purist when talking about Mazda...I have 6 RXs at the moment and they are all rotary all the time, also a 4WD MPV (V6!) and 2 Hondas (I4s)
Don't get me wrong, your swaps are fine...but quit acting like this is somehow a meet for conversions...it's not. The SoCal guys are the nicest guys around...maybe too nice.
