Gas Smell, ONLY after fillup

I've checked the pulsation dampener and it seems dry.

Can't pin point the location as I only smell it when driving. Once I get about 15 miles on it after a fill up I don't smell it any more.

1988 FC Convertible.

Are they any know weak spots I should be looking for? Wonder if it might be an EVAP issue. I can't find any leaking line under the car.

Any suggestions.

1. there should be a rubber section between the fill hole and spout on the tank. see if it is compromised.

2. check the tank itself. you may need to drop it and inspect it, and it may be a pain in the ***, but it sure beats dealing with (or being dealt with by) a fire.

^ He is right. Dropping the tank seems more intimidating than it actually is. Once down, you can spruce up an oft neglected area. Sand/repaint surface rust, replace old lines etc.

There is a rubber gasket that goes around the pump assembly up top of the tank.
If that is not fully sealed it could cause your smell,or leak.
It is accessable at the back of the car through the floor(under the hatch carpet, under a silver plate with 4 philips screws)
