Remove the "smoke" from tail lights...?

I purchased some S5 tail lights a few weeks ago from a junkyard. They have that "smoked" or tinted look to them. I guess this is what kids are into these days.

I'm looking for a product to completely remove whatever was sprayed onto the tail light. I wasn't sure if I should use paint-thinner or something. Does anyone have any advice?

If they are painted try sanding, but most likely it will be easier to clearcoat them instead of trying to polish them back. As you sand them they SHOULD get lighter, so try sanding with 1500 first, if it doesnt lighten get use more aggressive paper.

It really depends on how they were done, maybe easier to sell them as-is and find another set

I thought about sand paper, but was unsure of which grit to use. I may try this. I may leave them as they are, though. I removed the diffusers on the inside because I like the way it looks. I've heard people complaining about them being way too bright... This may be just right. We'll see.

Thanks!
