im about to get myself a FD and im afraid about spinning out in a RWD since i like to go fast at times, but other than that you think i should start off with a RWD. keep in mind i do have a job and am willing to put money into this babby! thanks

FD's are getting rare. So I'd say an FC, or even a civic hatch. Just incase you crash it My first 5 cars were RWD. I just picked up a civic hatch as a daily driver and because of these ridiculous gas prices. But I love it. Start slower, unless you raced go-karts through out your childhood. Most bikers first bikes aren't Hayabusas.

Even if you think you know how to drive,getting into an FD will be a different experience if you aren't used to these cars..I made a huge hp transition between my 1st car ever and my 2nd car ever,and I was still unprepared (first car was fwd,2nd was rwd)..If you are actually going to use our advice,then I will tell you that you should start small

+1 on the FC. rwd isn't bad to learn on, find someplace quiet and practice losing control. You don't want your first experience with oversteer to be real. I've never owned a fwd car.

Yes, it offers much more balanced handling. That's the reason high horsepower cars are rear wheel drive, or maybe all wheel drive.

Front wheel drive cars are a compromise and they're not designed with FWD for performance reasons. It's packaging. And it's not like FWD won't get you in trouble. You can have bad things happen with understeer and torque steer too.

Power oversteer or fishtailing can happen with the FD, especially in the wet. You'll just have to take it easy with the car at first and learn its limits. Don't drive past those limits. Tires are of utmost importance here. Old tires get hard and don't grip well. Don't skimp on tires when you buy them. Don't cheap out. It's about the most important thing you can do for your car. I see too many people on this forum buying tires on price then spending $$$ lavishly on much less important mods. Buy one of the higher end models from one of the top name tire brands.

Yes, agreed. FC is a good choice. FD is like something you should earn. if you do get one though be very careful on wet roads, that back end will slide right out on turns if you give even a little too much gas.

its a big step from a honda civic or dodge neon.. i had a neon for my first car for almost a year then got into the fd and wow it has power... i mean yes always a chance of spinning out.. expecally like you said you like to go fast.. if you want a rwd as your first car i recomend something like a 240sx.. thats what i always wanted for my first car.. and acually still do want.

rwd is fine for your first car, the FD probably isnt a good idea. i would suggest a miata for a first car, they are great to learn how to drive on. they are really balanced and with a few suspension mods they can out handle most cars (stock is too soft for my liking). if you dont like the maita then like everyone else says get an fc

Yeah I think rotary or even turbo cars are not good first rear wheel drive cars for anyone. Start with like a MR2 or a Civic ( i know not rear wheel drive) or some ***** like that and see how you like it.

i got a wrx for my first car and it was the best decision i ever made. i loved that car.... it was quick, safe, and you could do anything without losing control. i suggest AWD to learn basic physics of driving.
