I am conducting an inquiry poll to see how many views of this forum might be interested and consider upgrading their oil cooling system with a new dual oil cooler kit. I am currently making the installation and plan to have a complete kit with installation guide available to others in about a months time.

Details;
Two Earl's brand 19 row wide oil coolers with all fittings, custom aluminum ducts, mounting harware, steel braided oil lines, and an installation guide with pictures as help the process. I plan to sell this kit (if enough people are interested) for about $700 (only a small increase over cost) which is about $200 less then the closest retail kits and and about half the price of some other kits.

Purpose;
I own a 93 and like the rest of us, love my car but am also aware of their unique needs and limitations, especially when it comes to proper eng. cooling. So, while I am doing this for myself I just thought that there might be others who might also be - hence this thread.

how about a thermostat in the kit?

I was considering a thermostat but am trying to keep the cost at a minimum. But, unless I've missed something, all the thermostat will do is allow a faster warmup time by bypassing the coolers until the oil temp reaches about 160 deg. and up.

This is what Earls manual said
"The outstanding heat transfer characterictics of our Temp A Cure coolers is achieved in part by using a very thin alluminum sheets for oil tubes. Ever cooler is tested to 175psi at our plant and burst test indicate up to 350psi are tolerated before cooler failure.

Stomping on accelerator while engine oil is cold can combine to create a pressure spike far exceeding 350psi. If you can't break throttle stomper habit while engine oil is cold, you must install check valve and a thermostat, as shown in diagram below"

Well I don't have the diagram.
I have heard that during winter highway cruising, the oil can get really cold in the coolers, thus increasing the pressure. What happened is cruising is okay 3-4krpm.
As soon as you exit, you may downshift or launch, for certain you will go above 3-4kprm, then this increase the oil pressure, add to that cold oil will caused the cooler to burst.

What are your plans for ducts and brackets? Fans? What size lines? Fittings?

I agree with cold or winter weather driving or for those who live in cooler climates - maybo not for southern states. As for the rest, I think the ducts will be light weight aluminum, brackets I'm not yet sure but no fans (not necessary) and the hose size will probable be 10AN with adapter but I haven't yet finalized my plans. I am doing a lot of research and am still considering a single large cooler setup as well (for cost reasons) but was only interested if any else might also be. I just don't want to pay the inflated price some companies list their sets for (but not to speak poorly of them). When I do finally get my package put together I plan to sell it only a little above cost - for the rest of use who don't want to pay full price!

You need to sell the kit with a t-stat. Period.

Once you do, you will find that the combined cost of the thermostat and mounting hardward will put your cost very close to Crooked Willow's kit, which comes with very nice carbon fiber ducting. Given the choice between an unknown member of the forum and an established company whose products I've SEEN installed, there's not much of a decision there.
