Not sure how much use it would be, but perhaps cryo a used unit. I've heard that it improves the longevity, wear and strength considerably. I have blown 4 FD transmissions with less than 350hp. 2, I sheared the output shaft at the splined tail section doing antilag launches at the drag strip with MT ET Streets and about 8psi off the line on stock twins, ran 2 back to back 11.7's and POW. The others broke teeth on 3rd gear and broke the counter shaft on the road course. Yup, broke the counter shaft! Ouch! That's $2K in anchor weights! All used trans' and various mileage, but also running 4.77 gears and Kaaz diff.

These transmissions are bulletproof when run at 220ft-lb. When you increase torque to 300, 400ft-lb, and they break then "glass" is one way to look at it.
The RX-7 was highly optimized for weight reduction. I'd say they did an excellent job in the transmission. If you want grossly overbuilt parts you should look elsewhere.

the engine im using is a torque monster so i wanna use something beefy....check out the rb25det gearbox.....looks beefy.....suppose to handle over 500whp safely and are easy to find for a reasonable price
may be a potential upgrade for the rx7s looking for that xtra reliability....
