Auto trans Fluid question

I had a trans fluid leak (as in "complete loss of fluid" ) ast night while driving home from work . It was the line going to the cooler. Once i fix the line can i just refill from the dip stick or is it more invoved that that.

I think you will need about 11 quarts if its empty. refill with synthetic oil if you can.
